How long does it take you to read a book?

Usually takes me up to 2 weeks. This is during a regular 35hr work week, not on vacation, at the beach, etc when I have the time to actually sit and read. How about you?

Well, it really depends on the book. I am a pretty fast reader, I can read a Nora Roberts book in a couple hours. For a Tom Clancy size book, if I do nothing else, I can finish it in a weekend. If I am reading that say only before bed for 1/2 hour or so, then it will take a couple weeks to finish. When the last two Harry Potter books came out, it took me a little over a day to finish the 5th book and a day to finish the 6th.

A month, if I'm even able to finish at all. I used to be a rabid reader, but I must have adult ADD now or something. I need to read paragraphs over and over. Most books I just lose motivation altogether. Maybe someday when I'm less distracted.

(Thought I'd set the bar real low, as your first response here.) :smooth:

It depends on the book. I usually read about 3 books a week.

I read a lot--some in the morning before work, on my lunch hour, at home when there's nothing interesting on tv (which happens a lot), and at night before I go to sleep.

I do work full-time and have a family so reading isn't ALL I do :teeth: but it is one of my favorite things to do so I make the time. DH says I'm one of the only people he's ever met who can immediately shift attention from a book to real life and back again. I told him I gained that skill when I had a toddler! :teeth:

I usually read a typical 200-300 page novel in a week, spending one or two hours a day reading. I fly through James Patterson's books though and can finish them in a day or so.

I read 2-3 books a week on average. I try not to buy any books with less than 500 pages because I read them too quickly. I read a couple hours a day (normally at lunch break and also an hour or two before bed). I work full time and go to school part time so it's not like I do nothing but sit and read all day. I always have a book with me to read while waiting in line or at the Dr's office.

I also was tested and I read 850 wpm at my fastest and over 600 wpm on average (I was a guinea pig for a friend's thesis).

I don't get a chance to read as much as I would like but I am a pretty slow reader. I am a very careful reader and will read things over and over to get the details right. It probably takes me 2 weeks at about 1/2 hour a day to finish a 300 pg. book. However, I can tell you everything about it!

Depends on how into the book I am. I can normally read your standard 400 page book in a couple of hours but that is only if it holds my attention. I used to read a few books a week but now I watch too much tv! I have found my self renewing my books with the library because I can't read them all in a month. Maybe I shouldn't check so many out next time!

During the week, I can only read in the evenings, so maybe three or four days. On the weekend, I can finish a book in two or three hours if it's good.

I was tested awhile back to be able to read about 1000 wpm but with all the distractions at home, etc. I don't always get to read a book from beginning to end in one shot!

Like someone else said, I won't buy a book if it's under 500 pages either. The thicker, the better! I love reading--wish I had the time to do it! :)

On average, 1-3 books per week. I take a train to work, which gives me about 45 minutes each way to read. There are some days where I'm just dog-tired in the morning and will fall asleep on the train, so those weeks I'm lucky if I get through 1 book. I don't read at home or over the weekend as much as I used to simply because I'm too busy. But between hubby and I, there is a lot of reading going on in our household.

I can complete a basic romance novel (350 pages+ ) in about 5 hours if I read it straight through. I have been reading the Debbie Macomber books recently. A few hours to a few days depending on what else I am doing......
The reason I can do it so quickly is I am recovering from surgery and have nothing else to do. If I read 30 minutes a day with the kids (school requirement) I would take about 2 weeks.

I love debbie macomber! She's one of my favorite romance authors. She has a new book coming out on monday but I'm anxiously awaiting september when we get the new installment for the cedar cove series!

Forever. I wish I was more into reading. My two older sisters can crank out a couple books a week. But I love to research and read about new things on the internet.

DS23 LOVES to read. And has an extremely large collection of books, the only area he's a pack rat. He has finally started slowly packing them up. He goes through anywhere from 1 to 5 books a week, depending on his funds.

DS10 not a reader either, I wish he was.

I read an average of about 5-6 books (at least 150 pages) per week. Most of the books I read are around 250-300. If I include the picture/children's books I read, it's more like 15 books per week.

Hey, I'm a children's librarian!! :lmao: now if only I could read on work time. I'd be up to like 50 a week!

My average is about 90-100 pages/hour.

I'm glad we have a lot of avid DIS readers! :)

BTW I don't have kids of my own yet, so I'm sure that will alter things dramaticly. :teeth:

Depends on the book, good book 1-3 days, not so good book, 2 weeks to never.

If i'm not working, I can sit and read all day.

If it's a good book and i'm working, I spend the whole night reading because I can't book the darn thing down.

A very very very very very very very very very very very very long time.

Poisonwood Bible took me a few months (being diligent and reading at least every other night).

To put it in perspective--it takes me a couple of days to read a Nancy Drew book--and I read those "fast" and they are short

Wow--I'm impressed with all the speedy readers.

Reading assignments in school would take me FOREVER!!!!

(I'm brilliant at math though--or at least I was way back when).

Usually, if it's just during commute, it'll take me around 2 to 3 weeks, depending on the size of the book.

Another very fast reader here. I often read a book in a few hours in the evening. ( I read about 100 pages an hour) I think I read 3-5 books a week.

sometimes hours, sometimes years
