hi again :flower3:
As some of you may know we are making our first trip to WDW this halloween and we will be getting married on resort.
We fly out 23rd Oct (have a hotel booked for 1 night to try and catch up on sleep) and our disney trip starts on the 24th for me, my fiance and our 2 kids.
we get married at disney 31st (halloween) and we fly back 7th Nov arriving in the UK morning of 8th Nov.

... now none of our family or friends can make it to our wedding so we are throwing a big party when we get back (they deserve it - we have had a rough couple of months and our friends have been amazing!), i want it to feel like a wedding reception too, so the sooner the better... but would Sat 10th be to soon to have a full on party with rodeo bull and adult bouncy castle (all inside - too chilly in Nov) - how long does it take to get over 2 weeks in orlando?

We are at disney for 2 weeks - but are fitting in discovery cove, busch gardens, universal studios (2 parks and HHN), wedding and MNSSHP... that is a busy fortnight!

For us it can take a couple of days to get over the jet lag. But I think my concern would be planning all of that for so soon after you come back might be a bit stressful.
If someone lets you down (which I hope they don't) would someone back home be willing to take on the role of over seeing the whole thing. While you are away there is not much you will be able to do and I would not want to go away and worry about it the whole time. I hope that makes sense.

I hope that if you do it all goes well and congrats on the upcoming wedding.:cool1::cool1::cool1:

i say go for it , something to look forward to coming home is always miserable

and you will have to recover after the party anyway so just do all teh recovering in one go after the party

Recovering from the whole trip can be fast or drag on for several days.
Kids usually recover faster (that's tough on parents :) )

There is no way of telling how you'll react with the exhaustion, from the heat, the excitation, the parks, the trip, the jet lag, and so on.

as PP said, my main concern would be with the planning

don't expect to get anything done on the 8th, especially if you haven't been able to sleep on the plane (we hardly sleep for half an hour on a TATL)

I would say that throwing a party on the 10th is propably pushing it a bit too far.
there is another side of recovery that people don't usually talk about, it's the small depression some experience for a few days after their return. A "Disney deprivation syndrome" so to speak. Don't worry it's nothing serious, but after so many days of magic, reality sets in again, and sometimes people just need a few days to "go back to their normal lives". On a personnal level, that's not a time I would choose to get more stress into my life.
I would do that the next weekend.

And actually, that would leave you more time to get through photos, home movies and all the memorabilia (or junk, lol) you brought back from Florida.
If you want this party to be a means to share with your friends, I'm sure there will be loads of questions and interest for your wedding. Now with more time you'd be more "prepared" to show them how wonderful it was.

Congrats for your upcoming wedding

Yep - my best friend would have been my bridesmaid had i got married over here - she is dying to organise something... so she could be reception event organiser if we have any mishaps (good thinking to have a fall back plan - lol i am such an optimist :rotfl2: :rolleyes1 ) x

I agree with this also.

Just think with a bit of time how much you will be able to do with all your photos and really let people get a feel of what it was like. Trying to get it all done in a couple of days would stress me out. I like things to be perfect.

If your friend is willing to help great but again its a lot for one person to do and if changes have to be made would you be happy with her choices.

A tip would be to get one or your wedding photos printed (again tough to do in a couple of days) and mounted so that people can sign the mount and you have a really awesome guest book that you can hang on your wall. A friend did this for her wedding and looks lovely. Either that or email a high quality copy to your friend while you are away and that way it will be ready for the party if you go with the 10th.

Oh never thought about the photos wedding video etc , am sure if everybody missed teh actual event thats the closest they will get to it so will be dying to see the photos

We have today booked our fancy dress, bouncy castle, rodeo bull wedding reception for 17th Nov (to include a projector for our holiday/wedding snaps)
Thanks for your help guys x  :woohoo:

It will be amazing!! We had an at home wedding reception 2 weeks after we returned from our wedding reception I think if we had left it any longer people may have forgotten what it was for - we coped fine with it LOL

Old thread but... We had a very busy two weeks and just got home.

We got home yesterday at 10:30. I slept around two hours overnight, went to bed at 23:00 last night, up at 06:00 for work this morning. Felt fine all day.

Jet lag doesn't get us all :) but we have booked a relaxing holiday for six weeks time...

:goodvibesHi and congratulations!

We got married at DTD last October and stayed for 3 weeks, then we had a halloween at home reception 7 days later.

I think with hindisght we would have allowed ourselves 2 weeks or at least 10 days. This is only because we had to work 5 days of that week and it didn't leave much time for organising. We were pretty much planned before we went away but we had about 10 pumpkins to carve and a room to dress etc so panic mode set in!

If you have the option, give yourselves a little longer to get over jetlag and prepare.

Congrats we also got married on disney in 2008, we landed back on the 19th sept and on 20th we had a chirch blessing and a reception just like a whole new wedding, we was very tired but ran on adrenaline :-)

We are out there similar times as we are going 1nov :-)
