How long does it take to get off the ship in Galveston?

I am looking to book a private transfer from the port to IAH for a 1:00 PM flight. What time should I have them pick me up? Are there delays?

Luggage gets put in piles in the port area. It can take a while to find it. We then had long lines to get through customs.

Assuming no fog or other unexpected delays, express walk-off will begin about 7:30. For this, you keep all luggage and carry it off yourself. Customs should be pretty quick if you are among the first off.

When we arrived back to port on December 24, the express walkoffs were easily over an hour long line. When we arrived back on December 16, there was a short line, possibly 20 minutes, but the concierge escort allowed us to pass the line. This was after the port announced that the first luggage area was being opened to reclaim luggage. Neither of these cruises was impacted by fog delay.

Fog is an issue in January at least. On our boarding day, the ship was delayed by fog and people were not able to get off until afternoon. I think we arrived around 2:30 (can't completely remember) and people were still debarking. Our debarkation day, we were delayed a few hours. The drive from the Galveston port to IAH is easily an hour and a half without too much traffic. Could be longer with traffic, which is something we definitely have in Houston!

On the other hand, we did not have any problems finding our luggage nor did we have too long a wait to get through customs. We did wait until they called our luggage tag group--did not try to get off early as some people did. At Galveston, they bring the luggage out in waves, so if you try to leave before they call your group, your luggage won't be out yet.

We were impacted by Fog in Galveston on our January cruise. We had to spend hours anchored about 2-3 miles offshore and did not dock until 2:30 or so. We did not get off until closer to 4:00 and just made our 6:05 pm flight by a hair.
