How long do you keep greeting cards?

Handmade cards from the kids.... keep them all!! (Always date the back)

Misc. birthday, anniversary (storebought) for me or DH... If there is a special handwritten message I will keep it.... otherwise I usually toss after about two weeks.

New baby/pregnancy cards.... kept them all and put them in the scrapbook... nice and neat and fun to look at.

Birthday cards for my kids..... each child gets an 8 1/2 x 11 envelope before their birthday and I put all of their cards and a clean plate/napkin from their party, as well as a copy of their invitation in it. After the birthday passes I date and close the envelope and store it in their special keepsake/someday-to-be-scrapped box. Someday I may get around to scrapping each birthday!!

BTW.... today is my 40th birthday.... I think I will keep the cards I get today!! Already got two nice Disney themed ones from my kids!.........................P

I only keep special cards, and the rest are tossed. I always thank the sender for the card and thoughts, and then throw it away. If I kept every card I got, I could turn into another Hallmark!

I have kept the cards from my uncle and grandparents, as they are now gone. I will make a scrapbook with them, but I feel good whenever I go back and read them - brings back wonderful memories.

I usually keep mine. I have a shoebox full of precious little mementos which include greeting cards. I actually have all the cards my parents got when I was born. All the cards I keep are from friends and family that have nice memories with them.

Happy B-day pjilla!!:bday:

I tend to keep those from my immediate family now. For some reason I kept my b-day card from my mom last year and it turned out to be the last one from her. Christmas cards I keep until after the 25th, then I cut them up to reuse as gift tags for the next year. Other cards I toss several days after I get them.

My mom did keep all her cards!! When we cleaned out her apt last fall after she passed away, we found a huge basket full of cards for all sorts of occasions from tons of different people. I kept the ones from us!! Those cards went back about 5 years!!!

Can someone go to my house and toss mine? I know I should, but I just can't...

lately I've been scrapbooking by holidays, special occasions, etc. I will take approx. 6 of my favorite photos of that celebration and 2 or 3 cards to add to the book. The rest get tossed. I started with a Christmas album that I got so many compliments on that I've also done an 'autumn' album, vacation album, disny album, and birthday albums. Now I'm working on ones for the children that showcase each of them and what makes them special.

DH keeps all of them forever...drives me crazy. When we get things like birthday cards from our insurance agent or the guy who wants to sell us another car, I have to quick toss them out, or even those would go into the "save forever" pile.

I keep all my cards. They're in gift bags in my room. Mom even gave me the cards that were sent when I was born.
I have no idea what my mom does with her cards. My dad (who swears he hates clutter) keeps all his cards. He even has some my mom gave him, and they've been divorced for 9 years.

What a great idea. I did keep all the cards that my daughter got for her 1st bday last year, along with the plate/napkin/invitation, plus the first birthday candle and I put it in her memory box. I think I will steal this idea from you for her future birthdays.

As for other cards, I keep everything from my husband and daughter. Bday cards get displayed for the birthday week, then tossed. Holiday cards are kept on display throughout the holiday, until right after the new year. Christmas cards with kids pictures get put into a box and kept. Thank you's get tossed after reading.

Pjlla - Happy Birthday :Pinkbounc Hope you have a great day.

Cards I receive, I pitch after a few days. Baby shower & birthday cards for my boys, I've kept every single one

I treasure every one of them and have 40 years worth in a big treasure chest!
It is really nice to look back on the ones my Dad, Gma, MIL, friends, etc. sent me, who are no longer with us.

I also saved all 4 children's cards, BD souvies, report cards, best school projects, school, fair, club, college awards in a big truck.
Can you hear them when someday they have to clean it all out!?:rotfl:

Sandie :flower3:

Cards with special meanings I keep forever. One special one is 22 years old. It's the last one my dad gave to me before he died.
