How long do you acclimate a gold fish?

DD won a fish today. (oh yippee!!! ).


I forgot to ask the pet store how long to acclimate the fish so that it is ready to be poured into the new bowl.

We have it in its water it came in--in a baggie (big one) hanging out in the fish bowl right now.


(Amazing how winning me something cost me a few bucks. All joking aside--a fish was on the list of our pet acquisitions--just a little bit earlier than planned.)

Should wait until the temp of water in the bag is as close to the temp of the water in the bowl as possible. How long that is depends on when and how the water was put in the bowl.

Then add some of the water from the bowl to the water in the bag so it's 50/50 with the water it came in. Leave it that way for 15 minutes or so and then add it to the bowl.
