How long did you wait to book a trip after completing last chemo treatment?

I want to start planning a trip to give me something to look forward to but I want to be strong enough to enjoy. I have alot of bone pain and fatigue. Does your strength come back 6 months after finishing your last cycle? Part of me wants to book now then part of me says wait till you wake up and know you can do it.

Congratulations!:goodvibes I finished my chemo in December, but I also had radiation, which I completed in March. We are going on the Disney Dream on 8/8, then to Walt Disney World from 8/11-18. Planning the trip definitely helped me. While everyone is different, I have to say I didn't really feel like myself until I completed radiation. I was able to walk and had energy again. I did work throughout all my treatments. That being said, the month after that I had a roller blading accident and may have to use a wheelchair in the parks. Oh well, at least I'll be in my happy place!

I will complete my latest treatment on 8/16 and will be going to disney 9/13. I know I will tire easier so we are just going to take it easy. I would say you will know your body and know when you think you can go but planning a trip gives you something to look forward to. Congrats!!

My mom finished chemo in early August 2012 and we went on a trip the last week of October.

We had a very relaxed pace and mostly focused on the Food and Wine Festival. We did end up renting a wheelchair for two of the days we were at Epcot since the park requires so much walking. She was reluctant but it made a huge difference for her not to have to make the walk from the International Gateway to the Festival Center for F&W demos.

She also has only one lung (had surgery in Feb 2012 before chemo) so that added to her fatigue levels.

It really depends on the type of chemo, how long you have been getting treatments, how you react to those treatments, your type of cancer, and any other complications you have had.

After four years of treatments and numerous surgeries, I still never know from one week to the next how my fiancee is going to be feeling. Your doctor isn't going to be able to tell you when you will be ready to go because it really is such a personal matter.

Definitely make plans to have alternatives in place if you feel too tired. If you aren't suffering too much from chemo brain, a scooter might be easier than relying on a wheelchair. Electric powered vehicles take a lot of mental effort to use all day though!
