How long did you research/think about DVC before buying?

My parents took us often to Disney when we were young and my dream was always to one day stay at the resort that the monorail runs through (the Contemporary). My dad would not hear of it as he was very frugal with his money. Fast forward 20 years (1998) and I started taking my own kids to Disney every year. Kept dreaming about that Contemporary stay (started to really understand my father now rotfl:). With the currency exchange (we are from Canada) the cost was ridiculous. Finally a couple of years ago, our dollar was at par  Now was the time to realize the dream. We decided to stay at BLT because it was the newer building (had no idea it was DVC). Wow, we fell in love!! Stayed there again in 2010. Decided that we had spoiled our children (now teenagers) and ourselves and could not realistically be happy at the value resorts anymore. I saw the kiosks around BLT and inquired a bit. Did not do the tour but came home and started researching DVC. Found resale just before the rule changed last year and we purchased at BLT. We knew we loved the resort, we knew we would continue to go to Disney be it with or without our kids. Our kids told us they love Disney and as of right now plan to visit with their children one day. The exchange rate was still at par or slightly above :thumbsup2 and we figured we would "lock in" a portion of our expense now. Should our dollar drop again, the maintenance fees are much more manageable than the resort rates or even renting from DVC members. Should our rates go up, then the rest of the trip becomes less expensive. Seems like a pretty good situation
