How long did you have to wait for your small DVC contract via resale?

For those of you that have purchased a smaller contract (less than 100) through the resale market, how long did you have to wait until you found what you wanted and for which resort did you buy into?

I called TSS and within 2 days had a 50 point OKW contract. They were excellent from start to finish, and I highly recommend them.

Call and put your name on the list - the smaller contracts don't make it onto the website....

It was less than 2 weeks with TSS until they found our OKW contract. I didn't care about UY.

This is going to vary by resort. There are small contracts out there. However you may not want that resort or that use year or that contract's point status or the terms. In the end its is a combination of luck and how particular you are in what you want to buy. Smaller contracts are more difficult because the closing costs on a 50 point contract are about $8 per point. That is going to make it more difficult to find a better deal than Disney.

The one I called about was gone when I called but another one was released from "sale pending" status that same morning so I got it right away, but I might be the odd case compared to most situations. It met the same conditions as the first so I lucked out.

I found quite a few at various timeshare resellers. I called about some and looked a the prices, closing costs, etc. Most of the smaller contracts I noticed that sellers were asking for more than the normal market (I guess due to the high demand for smaller contracts). So a contract that would normally go for $74 per point was listed at $80 per point, etc.

Anyway, I talked to Jaki and she had a listing that was a combination of 2 contracts and she told the seller I was interested in the smaller contract and they agreed to split them up (and at the same price per point and no changes in terms). The only kicker with the smaller contracts is the closing costs. They added about $9 per point to the final cost, but I was still about $10 less than buying thru DVC and I didn't have to buy 150 points. (Of course now I'm considering buying 150 points! :confused3 )

So depending on how much you want to pay, you could probably find one in a couple of days, otherwise it could take a few weeks. Your best bet is to get on a call list with an agent so they will notify you of a listing before it starts getting advertised.

Oh, and I ended up getting my smaller contract at OKW ($74 per point for 40 points).

I hope you're successful in your efforts to pick up an additional 150 points.

It's kind of neat, though, that even the 40 points at OKW could be enough for some people. That can get you five nights in a studio every year, which is nothing to sneeze at.

The best way to get those smaller contracts is to contact a reseller (or two) and ask them to call you if the contract you want comes across their desk. Lots of times the contract doesn't even make it to advertising before it is sold. The resale we bought was offered to us the same time it was offered to a few others. We took it immediately because we wanted the extra points. So if you get offered something that you think you might want, you need to hop on it right away. They get sold quickly.

That's exactly why those 40 points is enough for us at OKW (in theory). It's kind of a birthday present for us each year. Every October, we can go to WDW and stay at OKW in a studio for 5 nights (Sun-Thurs). :teeth:

If I get the 150 points (or might see about just a 100 add-on or something like that), then we would add on another trip in April or May (have some points to let friends/family go and stay) and then rent the other points out. However, if we have to put off the additional purchase for awhile... the 40 points will serve us well. :teeth:

This is so true. Put your name on a list for the resort you want with the resale agency. I just got called a couple of days ago for a small HH contract but I had already purchased thru Disney. I gave them my name and desire about five weeks ago. Any thing under $5,000.00 seems to go pretty quick. We also wanted some VB points so we started the resale process around June 20th. We just passed ROFR about a week ago and we should have the final documents to sign some time next week. I figure a fair estimate would be about 45-60 days start to finish.

Got lucky, one appeared in my inbox from a broker and I was the first caller.

Several years ago I put my name on a list at the site sponsor, at least I asked to be on a list, I never got ONE contact. So... the sale went someplace else.

(NOTE: I have purchased via The Timeshare Store and had a great experience, but I am not sure the "put your name on a list" works. Maybe it's better if they already sold you something, the broker I worked with there the first time had left when I called again)

Carol, in my case Pat called within 48 hours of my initial call. I wasn't even sure that I wanted to committ at that point, and she offered it to a few others 'on the list'. I called her back next day and had exactly what I wanted.

In my case at least, TSS treated me exceptionally well, even though I was a first time customer, and first time buyer. They really stepped up when DVC had some 'small hiccups' with my contract.

That may be true because I have purchased there (TSS) before and I am a customer on file.

Wow. Sounds like everyone has been pretty fortunate. I just got on a wait list a couple of days ago and can't wait until I get the call. Hopefully it comes soon.

I really enjoy reading about your experiences and it sounds like joining the DVC is a special experience for someone who loves Disney.

I guess in the meantime I will just hurry up and wait! This is killing me. :goodvibes

Keep checking the web sites too...we were put on some call lists and unfortunately were not contacted at all for any contracts by one of the big resellers.

On a bright note, we did purchase 3 small contracts in about the last 2-3 years...2 at BWV and 1 at VWL. We really got lucky I guess because all 3 times we just found the listings on various reseller's web sites. I have to say that it seems when you are SUPER anxious and really looking - everything sells out ASAP. When you're just not sure about buying but on the fence and poking around, we found 2 of our 50 point listings on web sites...they sat there for several days until I couldn't take it anymore. Go figure...

Good luck! Lisa

I don't know exactly what you are looking for, but I know of a 60 point listing at OKW that has been out there for over a week. I'm not sure if I can post the link so PM me if you'd like that info.

We were thrilled to find a 50 point VWL resale with our March use year on sale around Christmas last year, and we jumped on it. We aren't looking for more points, but I do keep looking just in case something jumps out and says Please buy me!

I bought a 100 point resale about a year ago. I looked and talked to a few agencies and it took about 4 weeks.
