i officaily started the Atkins diet on Wed. 2/11

i have eaten nothing but meat eggs cheese black olives
tuna and bacon

i drink almost 4 quarts of crystal light a day for my water (which i know learned is not the way to go thank you to the boards here )

when should i know if this diet is going to work for me
because i have actually gained 2 lbs

also i read that calcium supplements can help with the weight loss
true?? or not

i am not discouraged yet just wondering

I don't know anything about Atkins, but I did want to offer you some {{{{{HUGS}}}}} and to say hang in there.

I wouldn't give up just yet. What I would do is modify my diet: go for water, not crystal light. Limit the olives--the book recommends 10-20 a day on induction, but notes that they may slow weight loss. Could yoiu be eating too much sodium, and therefore retaining water? I would definitely add a salad with dressing to your diet.

Calcium has been found to increase weight loss, but the study used was in natural form, not as a supplement. I do recommend taking a multi-vitamin. You may also want to get the keto strips to see if somehow you aren't in ketosis. Good Luck!!

The Atkins book also says that sweetners other then Splenda may also stall weight loss. So things might change when you switch over to just water. I would also suggest measuring your body so you can keep track of the inches that you lose. I know your mind set is to lose pounds but inches are just as good;) Are you doing any type of exercise? Hang in there.

Splenda amd Maltitol also slows my weight loss. As you get further into the doiet you will learn what stalls , stops and quickens your weight loss. Good luck!

Please measure yourself. Sometimes when you aren't losing pounds you are losing inches.

Also, measure your portions. Make sure you don't eat more than your allowance of cheese.

Do you have an appetitie? Are you in ketosis?

A personal question: Don't look please male WISHers. Do you take any type of hormone, either replacement or birth control? That can cause your weight loss to be very, very slow.

One last question...do you have 20 or less pounds to lose? The closer you are to goal, the slower you will lose.

nativetxn-- nope no hormones
i have way over 20lbs to go more like 50-60
as for an appetite yes i am hungry alot
ketosis??? i am going to buy those strips today
i thought cheese was a freebie how much is too much?

also a small update i steped on the scale and i have lost 3 lbs so maybe i'm just a slow starter

THANKS TO EVERYONE for the advice and support i am determined to succed this time:D

3-4 oz of cheese a day is all that is allowed. Also, I didn't see you mention eating any veggies. Those are an important part of Atkins. Have your read the book yet? And yes, definitely switch from the crystal light to water.... lot's and lot's of water :) And I recommend doing your measurements too. The scale hasn't moved for me in about 3 wks, but I'm definitely losing inches. Hang in there and don't get discouraged!

okay i'm off to but a tape measure to start measuring inches and i will cut down on cheese and up on veggies

can i add orange slices to my water?
or only lemon?

If you haven't read the book--do that. It will help explain a lot.

Orange slices contain a large amount of natural sugars. I would stick with lemon (actually I won't spend my carbs on lemon).

Do you have a carb counter? I know that they are available online at www.atkinscenter.com. There was a carb counter bundled with my Atkins book when I bought it.

When you count your carbs for the day, remember that each egg is basically 1 gram (.9 grams to be exact). Cheese is 1 gram per ounce and you are limited to 3-4 ounces each day. You might lose more quickly if you don't eat it each day.

During induction you are allowed a salad. I believe 1-2 cups loosely packed greens with certain vegetables.

I can email you the rules for induction if you would like to see the list of vegetables allowed during induction. Send me your email by private message and I'll be happy to do that for you.
