How long before DVC pays for itself

TVWalsh,

I never considered this. How much does it come to each year?

Thank you.

We can get about 21 days a year in a studio with our 285 points. We only stay on site - I don't want to go to Orlando if I can't stay on Disney property. And I prefer deluxe hotels. I took an average room rate of $250 a night for a deluxe - that comes to $5,250 for 21 nights, plus add 11% tax on that for $577.50, and that gives me $5,827.50. We figure we'll break even in 5 years on what we paid for our points and five years worth of dues.

Something I didn't add in was that $25.00 extra charge for the kids when they turn 18. That was starting to add an extra $50.00 on our hotel bills when we went. And I doubt I could get a $250 a night rate at the Beach Club, Polynesian, Boardwalk Inn, etc. Now days you're lucky to snag a AAA discount - and those are only around 10% to 20% off the rack rate (if they are even available for when you want to go). What's the rack rate at the Yacht/Beach now for standard view? $330.00 a night maybe - 20% off of that is $264 and then we'd have to add $50 more on to that total for extra adults in the room.

Our kids have never gotten tired of Disney property - it only grows. Now we have a son-in-law that wants to come with us and the youngest daughter's boyfriend adores staying at Disney with us also! They LOVE it. So don't assume you'll need less points when the kids get married or go off to college. It's only growing for us - and we don't have any grandkids yet!

Case in point - next fall husband and I are staying at VWL in a studio for 6 nights (instead of a one bedroom) because our newly married daughter and husband want to sneak down for some days and we are going to book them a five-night stay in a studio (Sunday through Thursday to economize on point useage). There is no way we would spend the cash money for rack rates to make this happen without DVC. These reservations would easily cost us close to $3,000 through CRO.

We love our purchase. I look at it as prepaying vacations (kind of like buying vacation dollars I guess).
