How long are your afternoon breaks?

Afternoon breaks? What are those? The only time we stop is to eat.

We were that way, too, until our 9th yearly trip. Personally, I don't view it so much as a "break" as I do going somewhere else (resort) to do something fun :)

My kids won't nap, but they enjoy swimming as much as they enjoy the parks. So I have breaks scheduled every day. Because we're going in November, I don't have the heat to worry about as much. So some days the breaks are in the morning, some afternoons, and some evenings. I aim for at least 3 hours, more if I can manage it. We're going for 8 days so I'm working on a schedule that is fairly relaxing.

We use afternoon breaks in hot weather to get out of the sun and recharge for the evening. We plan on getting back to our room by 1 and leaving the room around 5. What do we actually end up doing? Usually get back to the room around 1:30-2, out by 5.

I used to explain the mid day break to my kids this way:

At home we get up and are busy at school, work and afternoon activities during the day. In the evenings we relax and watch TV or play games. At Disney we're on a siesta schedule. We play from morning until after lunch, then siesta (tv, games, reading) while it's hottest. Then play some more well into the night.

The explanation helped them understand that we weren't expecting them to "nap" like babies, just shifting our normal schedule. In the end, they ended up falling asleep for a bit anyway.

I agree with others that think swimming is tiring. I really only find it fun and relaxing if I don't have anything scheduled. I hate trying to "relax" while needing to watch the clock.

I start wandering out of the park about 1, and I walk to the resort bus at 4 to head back again!

When our boys were younger we did not take mid-day breaks. They wanted to keep going, so we did until they got tired. We typically ended our non-fireworks evenings with a few hours in/by the pool.

Now that they are older we take afternoon breaks at the resort pool. It cools us off and we then shower and attack the second half of our day totally refreshed.

I normally go alone or when I do with friends my age with teenage sons. Also, where I stay is 40 minutes or so offsite so when I leave, that is it. My personal choice is to get there at rope drop (or if I am staying to close mid afternoon) and then do my thing and get out. Rather than leave, I just go at a manageable pace, drink water and not be of the mindset I have to do everything in x amount of time.
