How likely is this?

I really need a code to come out for our vacation time. It is the week of Thanksgiving. We'll be there from November 20-25. Thanksgiving is the 27th. Historically, have they released codes Thanksgiving week? We are on a serious budget and I'm really depending on a code or some sort of discount to come out.....

(i had asked this in another thread but never got a response, so I'm trying my own thread! :) )

I am absolutely no expert.

But I can't imagine that Disney would need to offer a code for Thanksgiving week; I would imagine they have no problem filling the the parks and resorts without one.

Can we assume you have the AAA discount??

I haven't seen codes released that included holiday weeks. If there's any way to reschedule to another time then you might find rates more pleasing to your budget and also many, many less crowds.---Kathy

Great....

No, we don't get AAA discount. I don't know anything at all about that.

This is the only time we can go because the kids school has a very strict absence policy. They would only have to miss 2 days during this time instead of the 5 or 6 it'd be at any other time.

We are in the same boat as you because of school, but we do have AAA and are booked 11-20,11-26th.We have been to WDW the week before Thanksgiving and came home on Thanksgiving day but that was many years ago.Because this year the school has changed alot of the days always had off before,we are still looking at missing more days than before. Are you flying or driving?Don't look for any type of discounts during this time (but we can only hope) because I think Thanksgiving is more busy now than in years past.Where are you staying?Anyway the AAA is your best bet,but I hope you and I and everyone else get a break.

We are staying at Pop! Can anyone get AAA? I've never heard anything about it until I came to this board, I am clueless. Would that be an option for me, even though I've already booked with a TA?

We are driving down. It's only an 8 hour drive for us, so it's good that we are not looking for airfare. With the economy and gas prices though, we are on a serious budget. I mean, to make this trip happen we are sitting at home every day, never eating out anymore, etc. so as not to waste any money!

Your TA should be helping you with this and should definitely know about any AAA discounts. Can you cancel with them and do it yourself? Just call CRO directly and ask for what rooms have a AAA discount available still to it. You can get a AAA membership for as little as $50 some places so if you save more than that it is worth it. ARe you looking at room only or package? DDP or eating OOP? just some things to consider.

Well the main reason I booked with a TA was so they would be on the lookout for discounts for me and apply them.

We are doing a package, room/tickets/and the basic dining plan. An AAA membership would definitely save more than you actually pay for the membership right?

Our AAA membership cost $60 per year; other parts of the country are probably much cheaper. Aside from the roadside benefits, it can potentially save you LOTS Of money at WDW.

From mousesavers.com:AAA and CAA Resort Hotel Discounts
American Automobile Association (AAA) and Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) members qualify for "room only" discounts almost year-round, though there are a limited number of rooms available for each date. You can generally save about 10-20% at the Disney resort hotels, depending on the season.

In general, the discounts run as follows:

During Value Season you can get up to 15% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 20% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites.

During Regular Season you can usually get up to 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites.

During Peak Season and Summer Season you can usually get up to 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts.

The only time AAA/CAA discounts don't usually apply is Holiday Season (around Christmas) at the Value and Moderate resorts.

You don't have to book AAA/CAA rates through the Auto Club. Room-only reservations with an AAA discount can be booked directly through the Disney Reservation Center at (407) W-DISNEY or a travel agent who specializes in Disney travel. Just ask if there is an AAA or CAA discount for your dates and resort.

AAA/CAA rates for all of the following year are usually released in the summer. 2008 AAA/CAA "room only" discounts were released on August 5, 2007.

Since you're staying at a value, it might depend. Obviously, 15% off the price of a Deluxe is going to be more of a savings than 15% off the price of a value.

Here's what I would do: Call AAA, ask them if there are any AAA discounted rooms left for your dates.

If POP is available, have them price it out, likewise any other values. Then, just for the heck of it, have them price out any mods that might be available; you might find that for the same price as you're currently paying for a Value, you can upgrade.

But first, check your cancellation policy with your current agent (do they typically charge cancellation fees??) If not, book with AAA and cancel the old ressie.

If there's a cancellation penalty, call your agent with the new numbers; see if there's any way she can match them.

You have nothing to lose by looking into the AAA discount.

Just an FYI, AAA discounts can't be combined with other discounts. It is one or the other. If you book a package with AAA just for the AAA discount and then Disney offers one for your time period that is better than AAA, you will have paid for AAA for nothing.

I would also be very sure that the AAA agency you use is willing to apply additional discounts when they are released. My sister in Georgia was told by her AAA agent that she would not apply additional discounts as she already had the AAA discount. My sister cancelled her reservation and booked with my TA who is an earmarked agent and who happily worked on getting her a discount for August!

I guess a lot of it is luck-- the kind of agent you get.

My AAA agent was only too happy to drop my AAA discount when I got a 40% PIN. In fact, he was outraged when he was unable to get me a PIN room at the CR and we "had" to change to the Poly.
