Up to what point can you cancel with Southwest and still get a credit for use up to a year later? Before/after the 24 hour registration mark? Up until flight time, even if you've got a boarding #? How does that work?

My husband flys several times a month and always flys SWA. He has checked in for a flight but never boreded and has received Ticketless Travel Funds for that flight to be used on a future flight.
If you want to make 100% sure I would recommend calling SWA customer service. They are very easy to work with.

Just to be clear, it's one year from the original purchase date, not one year from the flight.

My sister in law is a lawyer, and travels quite a bit, and loves SW. She once was about to board, her secretary called to tell her the deposition had been canceled, so SIL got out of line and went back to the office (or home). She automatically got the credit, and didnt' even let the gate people know she wasn't going to board.

You have to fly within one year of your original purchase date.

You'll get a credit even if you're a "no show". I'm not sure if you can cancel your reservation after your flight starts to board but that's a non-issue.

A SW rep told me you can literally not show up for your flight without notifying anyone and they will issue you a credit.
