How late can you add DP to stay...

We have an AP room and are considering adding the dining plan. How late can you add it? I mean how many days before the reservation starts or can you add it right up until you check in? Thanks!

72 hours and and I think it works the same as DVC - you would have to pay for it in full at that time.

72 hours prior however if you add it more then 7 days before your trip, you won't get charge a fee but within the 7 days from check in, they charge you $50 for adding or changing the plan.

I thought they normally didn't charge for any changes if your package was going up in price - or is that only up until the 7 day window?

I thought so too but according to 2 CM I spoke to last month when I was trying to upgrade our package from regular DDp to DxDDP, 4 days prior to arriving, apparently not. I was advised that no matter what you do, they charge $50 in the last week before check in for any change in your Disney Package regardless if your upgrading or downgrading. The second CM put me on hold for a bit and later told me she got it waved for this time but to be careful next time or I would be charged for it. Maybe they were misinformed or maybe it has changed.

Very late changes (e.g. < 7 days) are usually hit with the change fee, no matter the "direction" of the change.

Slightly less late changes (45 - ~7 days out) usually get it waived if upgrading (but NOT all the time!) and charged if downgrading. Been this way for awhile, but the vast majority of late changes we see around here are between the 45 and 7(ish) day mark, so they don't get reported too often (I've seen a few cases of said late change, and every one was at least potentially charged. A few, including the OP, did manage to get it waived, but more than often it was applied).
