How Late Can I get FPs in AK? How crowded are the "Gay Days"?

We're headed to Orlando Friday June 3 on an early flight, landing at MCO at 10:30 a.m. Thinking we could get to a park by about 1:00 pm. if all goes well - and have heard that both MGM and Ak are "doable" in half a day, but have different concerns about them:

1. AK closes EARLY -- 5:00 p.m. if I'm looking at the calendar right -- and I'm worried that all the FPs for Kali River Rapids and the Killimanjaro Safaris will be gone by 1:00 or so. Is this a valid concern?

2. The "Gay Days" organizers have identified MGM Studios as their gathering spot on Friday 6/3. Not that there's anything wrong with that -- I just don't want to go there if it's going to be really crowded. We're definitely avoiding MK on that weekend. Anyone have experience with a park on a "gay days" day?

I have attended the Gay Day parks for the last few years. They seem to have seasonally normal attendance, busy but you can still get around well. MK on Saturdays is ALWAYS busy, Gay Day or Not.

As far as MK, I would suggest taking a morning and doing the safari early. The animals tend to stay hidden in the afternoon heat, and are more active in the cooler mornings. I can't really say anything about Kali, I've seen it busy, but also have seen it empty. You might want to try it while people are watching the parade.
