I've never gone BF shopping before. :rolleyes1

The walmart commercials say to wait inside. How does this work? Do we get a claim ticket?
do we line up ( how early)? near the item? :confused3

We want the xbox bundle, we've already checked out the store bf special maps and know where the item is located.

Will we know if we have any chance to get our item when we arrive?- We don't want to wait forever, to find out that the items are all gone before the sale starts

Please guide a black friday newbie- :surfweb:

Well I stopped going to Wal-mart for BF because they used to just stack the few popular items in a shopping cart in or near the section they should be in. It was a mad scramble to get them. I got hit painfully in the ankles with shopping carts quite a few times. Also, getting a "locked up" item unlocked for you was near to impossible. Maybe it's better now? I gave them up and started going to Target instead.

Since the stores are open 24 hours people are usually inside milling around. Yes you will need to be in the area where your item is to be. If it is electronics there is usually a line that starts forming an hour (or could be more) prior to the actual sale time. You will want to ask an employee where you should be for this so you do not accidently end up in the wrong spot. Most of the other items they list are rolled out on pallets and placed around the store. These stay wrapped in plastic until the sale time starts but usually you can see what is in them or someone inevitably will tear the plastic to look in. You will see people starting to put things in carts but some store employees may make them put it back but other times people will already have their cart full and waiting in the checkout line. The registers will not ring up the sale price until the time stated.

When I got the Xbox last year, there were orderly lines for the electronic items and they gave out numbers as people lined up. They then handed out the Xboxes one by one to the people in line.

There should be maps online showing where the various BF items are going to be in the store - if I were going I'd look up the info now and go in prepared.

THEN on the night I would also ASK employees to make sure I was in the right spot (things do change sometimes)

Finally dh has worked for WM for 14 years he says in his store they hand out tickets for the exact number of items that they have and lining up starts significantly before the sale.

Good luck!

I just posted about this but check Amazon. They have an Xbox/Kinect bundle going on sale in a little under 1 hr. It may or may not compare with the Walmart bundle but it's worth looking at.

I don't know about your particular Walmart but mine isn't open on Thanksgiving. So the 10pm sales you will have to stand outside until the store opens. They said they will be letting 50 people in at a time and then wait a few minutes and then 50 more, to try and cut back on the stampede. They also will be handing out tickets for the hot items before the store actually opens. Once inside you can take your ticket to where the item is located and they will hand it to you. If what you want is one of the midnight sales or later then yes you can wait inside. They said they will start lines in the areas they will have those items and hand out tickets. So it seems they are trying to keep things as organized as possible. I don't have a lot of faith in walmart black friday shopping so we opted to go with the deal at Target.

If your Wal-Mart is a 24 hr store then I would plan on being there in line no later than 6 pm (who knows...maybe even earlier). If I am not mistaken that XBox bundle is the only electronic on sale at 10pm and I think that is because Wal-Mart knows what a big seller it will be and they want to get that crowd out of the way before they start with all of the other electronics.

Last year my brother-in-law luckily want to Wal-Mart 2-3 hours before the 5 AM sell started. He was wanting to get a TV they had. They started giving out the tickets not long after he arrived and not everyone in the line even 2 hrs before the sale started were able to get a ticket. Luckily he was one of the ones able to get a ticket.

Thank you so much for the information!

I am not sure that I want to line up at 6 or a 10 sale !

We already bought the xbox bundle last week from toys r us but the cost was $299 with a $50 gift card so Wm would save us $100. $100 is a lot of money/difference. :teacher:

I guess I'll get there as early as I can and if I get it at the BF price- then all is good, I plan to return the bought one to tru for a refund if we snag the wm deal.

Holy Cow. I thought it was midnight. Thanks for pointing that out. I would have missed it.

The Xbox is a 10pm sale. If you check the page numbers it will show you that the bundle with kinect is at 10pm.

Not all stores are open 24 hours; in fact, not all stores are opening at 10 PM on Thanksgiving. My local WalMart will open for Black Friday at 12:01 AM November 26.

For me, it is not so much if it's a savings of $100... is it also worth my time and my sanity? Not for me. Then again Walmart would have to pay me to be there for those sales...
