I work in a school but I am thinking maybe I can take some personal days and go Friday-Tuesday.. I am assuming Memorial Day weekend is insane.. but maybe Mother's Day weekend?? Does anyone know how crowded this time of year is??

Also, can I start booking dining even before I actually reserve my trip?

We've been several times over Mother's Day. We've always found it about "medium to busy" on the weekend but "medium light" during the week.
The temps can be high medium to high 80's during the day but the nights are often very pleasant, maybe even high 60's. Wonderful time of year for flower and garden show!

Mother's Day weekend will be MUCH better crowd wise than the other dates you were looking at in your other thread. We were actually considering going the week before Mother's Day as well, but my son has already missed 8 school days this year due to illness so we are reluctant to take him out for a week to go to WDW.

The crowd calendar on touringplans.com (which is usually very accurate) lists the days surrounding Mother's Day as 5's and 7's, which is pretty good...light to moderate crowds as the previous poster said. And as an added bonus, the Flower and Garden Festival will still be going on at Epcot which is always lovely.

As far as dining goes....if you have a reservation at a Disney resort, you can make your dining reservations for up to 10 days of your trip starting at 180 days from your check in date (it is currently 90 days, but on Oct. 27 they are switching back to 180 days). Therefore you can make all of your reservations for your vacation at once. However, if you do not have a Disney resort reservation, you can only make reservations for the date that is 180 days out. So it is possible to make your dining reservations without your resort booked...you would just only be able to book one day at a time.

Here is a handy calculator to figure out the day you can make your dining reservations...just enter in your check in date and it will calculate it for you: http://www.pscalculator.net/pscalc.php

We've been a few times in May, including Memorial Day weekend in 2008. Maybe it's just us but we didn't think it was that bad, crowd wise.

We've gone in May. It wasn't very crowded at all until Memorial Day weekend hit, then it was crazy. This was in 2003, I believe.

I've done May quite a few times. Mother's Day at Epcot always feels fairly crowded to me compared to the week days. The later in May you go the busier it seems to get as schools let out for the year.

Weather is hit or miss with us. The last few years we have gone it has been in the 90s every single day. Other times it has been upper 80s. So don't expect warm weather, but plan for hot just in case :)

May is a good month at WDW. The usual complaint would be the Love Bugs that come out in May (and September), but they were almost non-existant this year during both months. Even when they are are out in force, they don't bite, but they can be annoying. July and August are usually brutally hot. October through May is better.

We've gone at least maybe twice in May. Maybe going again next year. It's hot but it's a good time to go. My second favorite time of the year right after early December. It's Flower and Garden time which is beautiful. The butterfly garden is our favorite.

We've done mid-May twice and loved it. Great weather, crowds were not bad at all. Hot - in the high 80s, low 90s both times - not unbearable, not as humid as the summer months. I would definitely do May again if I had the chance!

really hot :headache:

This. Mother's Day this past year was miserable, temperature-wise. Crowds weren't bad at all that I noticed, but we go down so often that I wasn't trying to hit all of the big headliner attractions and therefore am probably not the best crowd judge. :) I was able to go on whatever I wanted without any unreasonable waits.
