We are still trying to plan a trip to Disney. We were hoping to surprise the kids for Christmas, but it is just too expensive for us to go then. Hubby and I thought that we would plan a trip for the second week in January. That seems to be a great time to go, but I have reservations about keeping the kids out of school for five days. I was thinking of making a suggestion to my husband. I thought we could take a mini vacation during Christmas. Some place we could easily drive to like Hershey PA. Then I thought we could take the kids to Disney the first or second week in June. The last day of school is scheduled for May 31st. Is it too crowded to go then? Is it too hot then too? Any suggestions? Thanks.

We go each year in June because of the school issue also. It is quite hot but we always try to take a swim break when the heat is at it's worst. As for the crowds, we find it to be busy but not unbearable. We're always sure to bring along a great attitude and are prepared for the heat. Best of luck with your trip planning... :earsgirl:

We went this past June and decided never to go this time of year again. We have been in August and liked it better. When we were there it was really crowded, it rained a lot, and the heat and humidity was awful. My son had heat stroke at Magic Kingdom one evening and we had to take him out in a wheel chair. He was embarrassed but too sick to do anything else. We went in late August a couple years ago and even though it rained it would be a quick shower and be gone. It was hot but there was hardely anyone there and we rode on any ride we wanted with short or no waits.

We went the first week of June 2004 and then in late August 2005 and we found the crowds to be much more manageble in late August and the weather to be fairly similar. It is very, very hot and crowded, but if you plan for it, you can manage.

Hi Mkaz,

If you're going to go in June and you want to avoid crowds, go in early June.

As for the weather, I don't know if it's too hot for you! As you can see below, we love to go in August and a lot of our friends think we're crazy!

Certainly if heat is an issue with you and your family, then June is not the time to go.

Bob

Thanks for the input. I didn't want to suggest it to my husband without finding out a little information first. I am not so sure that hubby will go for it. He doesn't care for extreme heat. Oh my, decisions-decisions.

We went in June this year . We sweat our ears off! :earseek: But to beat the heat we would take a nap in our cool room during the hottest part of the day! This is my first time experiencing flordia heat and I did fine and I hate heat! We also use the magical hours also at night which saved us also. The funny part is one day we got caught in a thunderstorm and we had ps at BOMA's It was so darn cold in there with our wet clothes, when we got in our car we had the heater on full blast . Heater June who would have thought! :umbrella:   :rotfl: P.S. WE LOVED BOMA's

I'm not sure if any other posters have mentioned...but IT'S A @)#*&$ INFERNO DOWN THERE!!!

Just a little FYI.... :teeth:

My sister and brother in law went the first two weeks of May and said the weather was pretty good. We went in March of that same year, which was PERFECT. Our next trip I want to stay onsite for the very first time and due to the rates, we will be going in May.

I think March is considered peak season and May is normal (or something like that). Anway, May is cheaper rates so we'll be going then. Hope the weather will be nice and not to HOT.

We've been going in mid-June and LOVE it! And early June is even better, crowd-wise. I say go for it. Disney is HOT just about anytime May through October, but there's A/C everywhere, and if you stay onsite and take an afternoon break back to the pools, you'll be just fine. Read up on "Unofficial Guide to WDW" to figure out which parks to go which days in order to avoid crowds. We went June 14-24 this year and never waited more than 15 or 20 minutes for anything. And remember, pretty much everything is open in June with longer hours. I say, go for it! :flower: (Oh, I already said that, didn't I? )

Thanks for the advice. I was really starting to lean towards this date. Seems as if it will work out quite nicely for us and the kiddies. Then we won't have to deal with the whole school issue. By the way, where can I find the Unofficial Guide To WDW?

We are going in June 2006 also. Since we are used to the hot and humidity, Im figuring our biggest thing will be the crowds. But because we are planning to stay at Disney a couple extra days because of the crowds, we should still be able to see the main things we all want to see. And because we are staying onsite, we will definitely be using the extra magic hours.

We were there June 20-25, 2005. It didn't think it was hot, but it was wet! It rained everyday on and off. We put on the ponchos and hardly noticed after the first day. It seemed very crowded, but we still had a blast.

Hi - we'll be there from 6/3 - 6/10 at the Contemporary. We've been every year so we know what we're going to experience - but given school, we can't go any other time. And besides, being from Texas, it doesn't get much hotter and humid than it does down here!!!!

We always go early, come back in the afternoon and swim/nap and then go back around 5:00 or so - you can really miss the crowds during that time period. A lot of people that stay off site stay all day and then drag their families out around 5 or so - you can benefit greatly by staying on site!

We're staying at the CR 6/3-6/10 as well!

For our past three WDW trips we've gone in early June. It's not terribly crowded, the park is usually running longer hours and we don't have to worry about missing any school. It's hot but we live on the Gulf Coast of Alabama so we're fairly used to the heat and humidity. ;)

I tried talking my DH into going in July of 2006 rather than June (because the season is cheaper) and he said "no way". We did it once when we were younger (and without children) and it was too hot--even for us. :sunny:

The best trip we had was when we went the week after Labor Day. Perfect weather and the parks were practically empty. I mourn those days but with two kiddos in school it's practically impossible to go in September.

I say go for it! But it is HOT! And it will RAIN. EVERY AFTERNOON. ;)

Hey, MKAZ, what you need to consider about June is how everyone in your family reacts to the heat. We have been to WDW in June, July and August. Always hotter than hell and extremely humid. Although I have to say, our last summer trip was June 04. It was so brutal both day and night that we have decided NEVER, EVER to go again during June. My DH is the only one who tolerates the heat very well and he even said, No more!! We are also from PA. NEPA and this past summer was the hottest I can remember in a long time, however, NOTHING compared to mid June in Disney. Like I said, it all depends on your family and how they tolerate the heat and humidity. Whatever you decide...have fun.
