How is VWL in the summer months??

I always think about staying there in the colder months. How is the pool? Is the slide decent? Is a water taxi the only way to get to MK?? How is that? Do you need to be out there at ZERO dark thirty to catch a boat over if you want to make it for opening?? Thanks!!!

We have stayed often at VWL in the summer...we find the decor and ambience to be shady and cool...at least as much as could be expected during the summer months!

The main pool is nice, the slide is pretty minor compared to most resorts. Still, I don't see kids moping around the pool while we're there.

The quiet pool is very nice but small. Of course, VWL is a very small resort so we haven't found it to be overcrowded for the most part.

In addition to the boat ride to MK there is an MK bus. We've never taken it as we find the boat ride to be a lot of fun and timely. We have never gone for extra morning hours so I don't know how crowded the boat/bus is for that. In all, I've found VWL transportation to be among the best of all resorts. Of course, you can't walk to any parks from there.

Here's an aerial view of the resort. VWL is red roof, WL is green roof. You can see the main pool at WL and you can see that the entire resort is pretty compact.

I think VWL/WL has one of the tamest slides. You can take a bus or the boat to the MK from VWL. We've hit larger crowds for the boat in the PM.

On our last trip my mother was along and uses a wheelchair so we did the bus to MK instead of the boat. Wow - best bus ride there is at Disney! Very few people use it and it's direct to the MK.

Here is a link to a WL infor thread which is well worth reading. VWL and WL share all the same things so the only real differences are the short extra walk and the difference between a DVC villa and a hotel room which you allready know about

We did WL last summer- late July- and loved it. The place was not super swamped and we never waited too long for a boat. We just headed down a while before we wanted to go to MK and went- so much better than the buses. The line was never huge either. There is also a boat to Contemporary and FW. They have the electrical water pagent on the water which you can go down and view at night or sometimes from your room. I liked the trees and shade etc. as it never seemed sweltering at this resort. Buses were also not bad except for one morning with EMH at the studios and we had to wait a long time. Loved that place in the summer!!
