How is UY determined?

I know if you are doing resale the UY is already chosen. But if you are purchasing from Disney, can you pick your UY or is it the month you sign your contract?

also, if you start with one contract UY and then buy another contract with a different Uy can they be combined?

Thanks

it has nothing to do with when you sign your contract. it just depends on which use year they are currently selling.

if they have your preferred UY available, you can request it and they will sell it to you. otherwise, you could choose to waitlist to get a certain UY.

(and unless you are certain that you will be traveling in the same time of year for the next 35-50 years...UY is really not that big of a deal...)

if you already have a ("master") contract, DVC will only sell you add-ons with the same UY. (unless you buy another (160 or more pts) master contract.)

points from 2 contracts with different UY months cannot be combined at all without using up the once-per-year transfer for both contracts. then they can be combined at 11 months if the same home resort, or at 7 months if they are for different home resorts.

without using the transfer, you would have to book individual nights separately and link the reservations.

I agree with you about UY being unimportant. I always used to travel in January. For the last 2 years, I've been travelling in May, October and December - and that may change a bit in coming years as other seasonal events in WDW (including the once/year members' cruise) may steer my vacationing patterns again. Trying to predict your own vacation habits for the coming decades isn't easy!

I just want to be sure that I understand this information about the master contract........

1) If I own 160 at SSr and 60 at BWV then at the 7 month window if they are under one use year in a master contract I can book at the 7 month window?

2) Likewise I can book at the 11 month window for each resort but only with the prioirty booking points?

3) If I own 2 different use years I can only transfer once and make the complete ressie.

Could I also book 3 nights at Resort A from SSR points and 3 nights from BWV points at Resort A. Would I need to change rooms or will they link them. This would only be if I had two different contracts.

Thanks

Ken

yes. so if you need 12 pts to book the last night at BWV (or wherever), you can take 6 pts from SSR and 6 pts from BWV to book it.

2) Likewise I can book at the 11 month window for each resort but only with the prioirty booking points?

yes, at BWV, you can only book 60 pts at the 11 month window (unless you've banked 60 BWV pts from the previous year and/or borrow 60 BWV pts from the next year.)

likewise, you can only book SSR at the 11 month window with your 160 SSR pts.

at 7 months, yes.

yes, at 7 months, this would be the case. it shouldn't be a problem to link the reservation made with separate pts...so you shouldn't have to change rooms.
