How is use year determined?

Looking to purchase this fall. We tend to travel during spring break (usually falls during Easter)or during the summer. A Christmas trip (due to school schedule, won't check in until December 24) is a bucket list item.

How do I come up with a use year that will cover these plans? I'm planning to purchase 250 or 300 points (direct). Will they allow me to spilt the points up in order to have more than one use year? If so, will that impact my ability to use all of the points to book long stays (usually 10 nights)?

How does booking Auluni factor into this? Hoping to do Hawaii in August 2019.

IMO March is the best option for this situation, Feb is second. Take your chances on the one Christmas trip and a rare or once in a lifetime HI trip. I would not buy Dec just to cover the one trip.
