How is the Luau at the Poly?

Need honest opinions on this. We will have our 5 and 1 year old with us. We are staying at the Poly and debating between this and Hoop Dee Do, which we love. Also, on the day we have in mind for the luau there is only category three seating, which I'm not sure if that is a good view of the show. Any opinions welcome!

Our Ratings of Luau: (*rev 11/2/2015*)
. . . food price value: C ("D" if using DDP)
. . . food quality: C
. . . food quantity per serving: A
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: B
. . . seating comfort: C
. . . eatery atmosphere: B
. . . eatery convenience: C
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff attentiveness: B
. . . character interaction: C (performance)
.
NOTE1: The Luau plays upon the traditional Hawaiian or Pacific luau. However, the "play"
is silly at best and sub-par when compared to any authentic luau. If you never plan upon
attending a true luau, then this would suffice. If you have done a real luau or will in the
future, leave this unattended. As for the food: salad was OK - bread was OK - chicken
sub-average - ribs were good - rice and veggies were flavorless. Overall, not worth the
cash price or 2-TS coupons. As for DDP, strictly financially speaking, it is better to pay
OOP than use two DDP-TD credits. If spending the money for Luau, you would be more pleased
at the Hoop-Dee-Do-Review in Fort Wilderness.
.
NOTE2: Having seen luaus in Hawaii, my daughter actually fell asleep at the Disney luau.

We were way in the back and slightly raised for the luau and we could see just fine. We enjoyed it more than the HDD because our seat for the HDD was *right* up against the pianist and it was so loud it was a problem for my kids (and myself) with sensory issues. The show would have been fun if we'd been seated elsewhere and we'll probably give it a second shot.

With small children, I don't know if I would do it. It really was a 1 and done for us. Food was just ok but plentiful. The show is hokey and loud. If the weather is bad, you run the risk of it being canceled so depending on when you go it could be a factor.
I would opt for HDR myself. The kids would probably enjoy it better and I personally like the food better.

We did the Luau before, but it was not something we said "we must come back to", like HDDR did for me when I went for the first time in 2012. I have been back every year since, but I cannot say the same for the Luau. We enjoy the food more at HDDR and the show is so much fun.. it is something we really look forward to each trip.

We did this one time. I think the show was better than the food, especially the hot looking men, lol.

I am debating this too! Is the Hoop show the same every night? Same as last year and five years ago?
I have done the luau but many years ago. I remember we were at the end of a long picnic table which was at a right angle to the show. We couldn't see!

It's a fun show but the food is a little disappointing. Worth it if you've never been, but I doubt I would repeat.
