The Polynesian Resort?

My wife is a coffee drinker I myself could not dislike coffee more then I do already, But being a good DH (lol) I want to make sure that she has a good morning coffee. Is it good at Capt. Cooks? Kona Cafe? can I just get a cup there? Should we bring her Green Mountain with us?

Thanks for helping this coffee ignorant soul

Dave

Hi,
There is a coffe bar in the Grand Ceremonial House right next to the Kona Cafe. They have a delicious Kona blend.

The Kona coffee is excellent. Your DW will probably dislike the coffee served elsewhere in WDW (with only a few exceptions). Disney has some type of exclusive contract with Coca Cola that includes their NesCafe coffee (Which I hate). The Kona coffee is authentic Hawaiian grown coffee, though, and is very good.

To get an idea for comparison, I drink mostly Caribou and Starbucks coffee at home, but I also really like the Kona coffee as well as the African coffee (served in press pots) at the Boma and Jiko restaurants.

If your DW drinks a lot of coffee (like me, LOL), it can get expensive if she also finds that the "generic" coffee doesn't appeal to her. Wouldn't hurt to bring the Green Mountain stuff along and brew a pot in your room every morning.

Best wishes -

My husband and i are big Green Mountain Coffee fans. Althought I have not tried Kona Coffee yet, I will say that most of the coffee you get at WDW is NOT anywhere near as good as Green Mountain! We dealt with it but this time we are bringing our own.

Is the Coffee bar at the Grand Ceremonial House free for teh guests in the morning? If not any idea of the cost?

Thanks again for all the help

Dave

Oh, it's not free, it's just like any restaurant or store--it's a little counter service on the second floor next to where you catch the monorail that sells bagels, pastries, juice, some fresh fruit and coffee. It is not as good as the presspot at Kona though. If you are really concerned, definitely bring your own pot from home. If you don't use it, fine, but you have it if you need it.

If you are staying concierge, the coffee is the Nescafe garbage, even though they have the select your own coffee and espresso machine now. I have heard you can request "real" espresso from the staff there though I have never tried that.

Good coffee is definitely lacking at Disney. I would love to see carts selling good gourmet coffee drinks around the parks.

Oh, and as for cost at the coffee counter, I don't recall prices (really didn't use it much, made do with concierge espresso machine) but I think it was the same prices you would expect from any similar place like a Starbucks.

Definitely NOT free. Here's a list of the offerings (including prices) compliments of All Ears Net - note that list is from June 2004:

You can ask for a coffee pot and they will bring you up one for free. At least they did at AKL and YC.

I had heard coffeepots were "requestable" too, but if you are really into your coffee and don't want to chance not getting a pot--bring your own. I have heard stories of people requesting fridges too, and not getting one, so would be leery of "counting on" getting a coffeepot after I arrived.

We bought a travel size pot that is very easy to take anytime we want to be sure we will have our own pot. (We don't take it to WDW when we stay concierge, we drink the lounge coffee instead.)
