How is rider switch working these days?

I've read on here that even though fastpass isn't live right now, you can still rider switch. Is it still the same as it used to be? Go to the entrance to the line and get the rider switch fastpasses added and then get on the regular line? I'm going for the first time post-covid in July with two little ones so trying to figure it out. Thanks!
