Hi, my DH has a speech he is giving in Anaheim on Feb 12 and 13 04.We are staying at the Hilton 2 blocks from DL.We will fly in on the 11th and out the 16th.It will be me and 2 DD's 7 and 10.We have been to WDW many times but never California or DL.We hope to hit DL and CA for total of 3 days and that leaves one day to see other things.
1.What is the weather like that time of year?
2.How are the crowds that w/e?
3.What else would be of interest to see that is close by?
4.Is the beach to cold to visit this time of year?

Thanks for any replies.Dana

Can't help with the weather too much since I have never been during that time of year.

The parks will be crowded this weekend. Get there early (before posted opening) to make the most of your visit.

There is a Ripley's Believe it or Not and a Wax Museum in the area. Click on the links for more information. There is also Indpendence Hall as well as the California Market Place both on Knott's Berry Farm Property. (you do not need park admission for these). All these things are all in near by Buena Park a short drive from Disneyland.

You can always spend the extra day at:
Legoland
Seaworld
Universal Studios
Knott's Berry Farms
or how about SHOPPING?
All of the themeparks I have listed have websites you can checkout. The water will be entirely too cold at the beach to play in, but you can still go and see it and maybe have lunch??

As far as the Disneyland crowds to, if you utilize the Fastpass system you should be fine. We always hit Disneyland first thing in the morning, and then in the middle of the afternoon when it starts getting crazy, head over to California Adventure since the crowds are always more mild over there. Then, when the crowds die down a little bit, head back to Disneyland for the rest of the day.

Have a great trip!!

Thanks for the replies.I'm sure I'll have many more ?'s since I have never been there before.

So I'm giving this one a :bounce: BUMP:Pinkbounc ! As a frequent visitor to WDW, what should I not miss and what can I skip if there are long lines (even with FP)??

I have no idea what that is...Just taking a vacation with my family! After 2 days at Disney, we're heading off on a cruise out of LA! Although, I'm looking more forward to Disneyland!

we were in DL around Pres Day 2001.
the weather was pretty cold.
mid-day might get warm enough to be in a t-shirt.
but we pretty much dressed in layers, and wore pants/jeans the entire time.
you'll need a jacket, and if you get cold easily (like me), maybe a scarf at night (if DL is even open that late  ).

of course there are those people who will go to DL in a tshirt and shorts no matter what the weather is. heh.

the crowds were not too bad, but we weren't there during the actual weekend of Pres Day.

It's hard to predict the weather. Most likely it will be cool (jeans adn long sleeved shirt for day with warm sweatshirt or jacket for evening). However, there could be a warm spell. We had wonderful spring like weather this year in January. Unpredictable, but made for a wonderful birthday party for my niece.

I'm not sure of the crowds, I'd imagine any holiday weekend would be more crowded, but with the fast pass you should be able to get on the majority of the rides. I second the idea of getting their early. It seems that the best time to get on the rides quickly is the first hour when they open and the last hour before they close.

As for the beach, it is probably not too cold to visit, but it probably will be too cold to go in! It takes many months of warmer weather for the Pacific Ocean to warm up. I love the water, so I'm never opposed to a barefoot walk along the coast. Even if it is cold, it is still fun to do. Or you could go to lunch or dinner at a nice restaurant on the coast. I'm about an hour north of Anaheim, so I can't direct you to a nice beach near by. Hopefully someone else can!

Have fun,
Jennifer

The last time I was at DLR in February, the weather was a little cool, but quite nice. Sweatshirt weather. You do need to be prepared for rain, since I believe Jan and Feb tend to be the wettest months. The crowds will be heavy during the weekend, but should be pretty nice before then. For the extra day, I suggest you consider Legoland. It's well suited for kids under 12 (while Knox is more suited for older kids). It's different, and not so large that your tired feet will protest too much. Also, you can enjoy some of the ocean scenery on the 1 hour drive down from Anaheim.

MPLsDad: As far as don't misses for the experienced WDW visitor:
1. Electric light parade
2. Soaring over California (Nothing quite like it)
3. Indiana Jones (Similar to Dinosaur in style, but much more exciting)
4. Screaming California (simply a fun roller coaster)
After that, it depends on your taste. I'd try to do Matterhorn, since it is an original, but with no fast-pass and SM and BTMRR down, the lines could get long. I expecially like to ride Matterhorm after dark. Roger Rabbit and some of the rides at CA are a little different than anything at WDW. It's also fun to compare some of the rides that appear at both DLR and WDW, especially Peter Pan and Pirates of the Carribean.

Have fun!
