How is Grand Legacy? Vs others?

I'm planning a trip to DL in November, as usual. It'll be the second week, since our APs expire right after that. Tragically, Hojo will not have the Superior rooms open at that time. These are our favorite and always worth the extra money to us. So because of this, I'm actually looking for other options.

First, how is the Grand Legacy? I see a lot of average reviews and even some bad ones on TripAdvisor, so that makes me worried. The price seems decent compared to others in the area, the walk seems short, and the rooms seem big enough for a blow up twin air mattress for my son (important). Places like Tropicana and Camelot, while nice, have smaller rooms with minimal room for the air mattress.

Other places I'm looking at are these: Desert Palms - this place is a bit more pricey and has a slightly longer walk; it is also booked up on the last day I want to spend there (which means a shorter trip), but has tons of space and a good breakfast.

HoJo - the deluxe queens seem big enough for us, the AP price is good, and the waterpark is a plus. But it would be in Building 2 which I've heard gets more traffic noise, plus it's an extra distance to walk. At least compared to Grand Legacy. I'm actually leaning this way for now.

DL Hotel - for our stay, Dapper Day rates are available, but we'd need to cut the trip a day short since the rates disappear on what we'd like as our last day. At that price, though, it would still be $800 more than the HoJo (with HoJo being a day longer) and $600 more than Grand Legacy. It would be a great experience (we've done it before), but it'll cost more. So you see my dilemma/decision. I know...first world problems.

Just wanting to get some insight from those who've traveled to these places.

No, it's building 1 that gets traffic noise. Building 2 is very quiet - probably the quietest in the hotel complex.

Grand Legacy isnt too bad. Its no DLH but it does have things I like. My favorite being that AP holders can check in an hour early. The pool is the best "in the middle of a parking lot" type pools in my opinion. Parking has never been a problem for us. Friends of our did have ants in their room when they checked in and were moved to another room.
I'm pretty sure we've used a twin sized air mattress in one of these rooms without much of a problem (maybe had to move the table)

The Disneyland hotel is my absolute favourite, but having said that, if staying there means loosing a day, then i don't think it's worth it. We have stayed at both the hojo and the grand legacy. I did like the hojo a bit better because of the view you talked about, as well as the pool and the inside hallways. However, the grand was perfectly fine too, and if it is cheaper than the hojo then i would probably go with that one. I had read lots of the bad reviews on tripadvisor and i have to admit i was a little hesitant to stay there. I was pleasantly surprised once we got there and would definitely stay there again if the price was right. The walk is closer to the parks and they have a rooftop bar that supposedly has an incredible view of the parks. I think that an air mattress would fit fine in the room as long as the room category is "deluxe" or higher.

Grand legacy is decent but honestly prefer HOJO. If driving they charge $14 for parking too so remember to add that in. The walk is short though and it's not bad but check in can be slow , parking can be hard to find later and I can't recall if you can leave your car late as we do with HOJO until 3pm where parking is free. We are also partial to Wyndham rewards as points add up quick.

I've only ever booked the superior rooms there from what I recall that face Disneyland and I'm not a light sleeper nor is my husband so I can't say if it would bother you. I will say in my experience the rooms are bigger at HOJO vs GL.

Our absolute fave is the Grand Legacy. We've stayed in it 15 times - before as the Ramada. We specifically ask for rooms in the 328 to 428 numbers - they are the old "premium room views", also previously known as "deluxe fireworks view." Rooms are nicer, bigger, fridge, microwave, very comfy beds. Sadly for the first time for our Feb trip, they are sold out. We are reluctantly staying at Hojos. Another HUGE draw to GL is the pool - warm and has very long hours, like 8am to 11pm. Coming from Chicago, my kids's swim even if it's 50 degrees out and rainy. Pool stays open. I talked to HoJos, they said kid features not open late or very long and will close if chilly. That sucks. But, we will give it a shot. The walk to the DL security is about 7 mins, that's walking at a modest pace. Only downside is they now charge for parking. Breakfast offered totally suits us - cereal, bagels & donuts & hot eggs. Exactly the vaca quick eats we look for. PM me if you have any questions, I rated highly on Tripadvisor!!

Yeah, I can't justify spending what they charge to stay there. It's $269/night (AAA rate) for the week we want - that's about the cheapest I've found it any time of year. For $10/night less, I can stay at DLH during Dapper Days. But in general, as much as I want to try out those new, large rooms with the awesome waterslides, it's too expensive. Thanks for the tip, though. I just wish it were closer to what I want to pay.

I totally agree with heybets30. I have stayed at both places but mostly Grand Legacy. Probably stayed there 50 + clear back when it was the Saga and maybe HOJO 10 times. I like the convenience on how easy it is to walk to the park. At HOJO you can walk however it is further. There are 2 pool areas at HOJO, one is a splash pool for the kids and then the pool. If you have small and other kids its hard to be are 2 place at one time. The areas are not together. The pool at the Grand Legacy is also one of the main reason we stay there. It is good size and perfect for little kids. Grand Legacy has added on many new rooms and the other rooms have been remodeled, many times we have added a roll away and had plenty of room to walk around. Most important have a good time.

The pool at hojo is separate from the water play area. I would make sure they close the pool when they close the water play area; I doubt it personally.

Your reasons are exactly why our family hasn't stayed yet at the new Courtyard next to Hojo's. Plus, I really don't care for their pool area. The water slides look like fun, but the pool itself is super duper small. I think it's overpriced.

That is too bad, I was there in April and they had a "normal" breakfast offering, not fantastic, but several choices. I have stayed at Grand Legacy 3 times in last 12 months and have nothing but good things to say about the place. The Terrace food wasn't all that great, but great place to view fireworks with a beer. I have stayed in room closest to street/lobby and did not find it noisy.

I tried using Flash in the promo code area and it didn't seem to affect the prices. 40% off would make this hotel an easy choice. Hoping I can find a way to use it.

for non-busy times of the year, book a room and then keep checking back. Grand Legacy often lowers prices as the dates get closer if they're not near capacity. Also get on their mailing list.

I tried using Flash in the promo code area and it didn't seem to affect the prices. 40% off would make this hotel an easy choice. Hoping I can find a way to use it.

Basically you put in the rate code and IF the rate discount is available it will show up like others - AAA , AP , etc. so it likely varies on capacity. I did see confirmed on their website and via TripAdvisor they did away with their breakfast which is surprising since they built a breakfast room for that initially. It wasn't amazing but still very disappointing for many as I feel it's quite overpriced now. The biggest perk is the distance but frankly I think I'll stick to HOJO or even Desert Inn or CCI.

I haven't stayed in GL's new tower, those rooms look lovely, but they are PRICEY (at least for the dates I've checked). As an AP'er I love the early check in, AP discount, and late checkout. I haven't experienced the "new" breakfast, the old one was lackluster, but enough to get us started. The rooms are pretty average motel rooms in the older area. And the Wi-Fi STINKS. Location is great and we enjoy dining at Tony Roma's at least once every trip (cheaper than most options inside DL and better food in our opinion).
GL is always one I check for pricing, but usually only stay when it is just the Husband and I (when we have the kids we prefer to stay over at the Anaheim Desert Inn & Suites where we can have the kids in their own sleeping area).
Also check out the Tropicana, which is between GL & HOJO's....they are allegedly redoing all their rooms this year, so I booked a Disney Executive Suite there for December...that will be our first time trying them out. And like previously stated, check hotel rates routinely, often times I can re-book the hotel at a cheaper rate closer to our trip.
