We've never been on it. We want to try it in September. I can't get a good feel for what it is like. Our kids are 6 and 10. They like a lot of rides but they do not like roller coasters. Is it scary? Fast? Thanks!

I covered my eyes for most of the ride until I was 30 LOL. It is pretty intense, big dinosaurs, loud, dark. It is also one of the best rides at Disney World I think. Not at all a roller coaster. Not fast but very jerky. My kids have rode it since they were 5.

My daughter, who is now 18, still shakes thinking about dinosaur (and she rode it 5 years ago). My other daughter, who is now1 6, was shaken but recovered quickly.

Not a rollercoaster.
BUT...it is dark, jerky, scary and LOUD.
It took me a dozen tries over the years before I could finally get through it and keep my eyes open.

For young kids… be very, very cautious.

Dinosaur is, by far, the ROUGHEST indoor ride at WDW.
(Space Mtn. is right in there, but not for ENTIRE ride!)

Its certainly "tied" for the absolute LOUDEST
bellowing sound effects.

And there is nothing that comes close in the category of
"Pitch-blackness...
then FULL-BRIGHT LIGHTS illuminating
GIANT DINOS with razor-sharp spiked teeth
LUNGING out straight AT YOU
with DEAFENING-ROAR sound effects."

Then,
more VIOLENT shaking,
jack-rabbit ACCELERATION,
sudden hard BRAKING...
and REPEAT.

All that said, I really ENJOY riding this attraction, and do so every trip.

Dinosaur is based on the same ride technology that is used on the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland.

My kids were fine. I, on the other hand didn't sleep for a week! That dinosaur scared the bejeepers out of me. :rotfl2:

I'm 33 and still cover my eyes-I'm terrified. But I see little kids not bat an eye. Depends on how big a wimp you are ;). At least I always get funny pics!

My kids have ridden it since they were tall enough. It is intense, but if your kids like thrill rides it is wonderful. :goodvibes

Dinosaur is a great attraction. It is very loud, Dark and Scary to some people at any age. The ride vehicle shakes, brakes, & jerks throughout the ride. Everyone is different, and it is hard to say if your children would like the ride or not. Some Love it, Some Hate it.

I don't like to be in total darkness and I hate really loud noises so this is not a favorite ride of mine. However, my kids have always loved it even as young as 4 years old, so I go on it with them. I usually keep my eyes closed through most of it. ::yes:: We hadn't managed to ride this ride for a few trips so when we were there last June, it was a "must do" for AK. Before we went on it (I was whining about having to ride it) my then 14 yo DS asked me why I didn't like this ride. I told him it was mostly because it's so loud. He just kind of laughed at me and rolled his eyes. When we got off the ride, he told me that he didn't think it was loud at all. I go to add the ride photo to our photo pass card and guess what I saw on our picture? My son -- caught on "film" for eternity -- with his fingers in his ears. :rotfl2:

My 3.5 year old had no problem with Dinosaur, but she was absolutely terrified of the Haunted Mansion. I will say you might want to seat the child in the middle b/c the outer ends are closer to the dinosaur figures. I, personally, didn't think the ride was that bad, however it is jerky and dark. Dinosaurs WILL pop out at you with no warning, so be prepared.

It's really hard to say, different kids will react completely differently to the same ride. It is a very jerky ride, but we like it and laugh hysterically through the whole thing. Not scary at all to us. Guess we're weird like that :upsidedow

I have seven-year-old twins and we rode last summer. One is a thrill-seaker and the other is easily frightened. The thrill-seaker twin loved it, but the other one hated it.
