How is Dinner at Kona?

We had a great breakfast on our last trip, had to try the Tonga Toast! Just wonderful!
Then I saw Kona Brewing Co beer on the lunch menu, so we came back another day and it was real good lunch.

We usually stay at the Beach Club and part of our fun is visiting and eating at other resorts. Love the Poly, and it's location on the monorail makes it an obvious stop on our way to or from MK.
So... for the first time I started hearing good things about Kona dinners. I never really thought about it as a dinner spot, just didn't come across that way to me...seemed more like a breakfast or lunch place. Some post mentioned great steaks there, next I'm reading they're taking the steaks out... hard to keep up.

I'd appreciate any thoughts you may share about you dinner experiences at Kona. With steaks, no steaks, some steaks...anything you want to share is much appreciated!

We love Kona and have eaten there our last 3 trips for dinner. I have enjoyed everything and plan to go back our next trip. We like to make it our first night dinner and then go see the fireworks. JJ

P.S. See my dining review below for my Kona review...

Last year we tried dinner for the first time and it easily beat out LeCellier in quality, service, and atmosphere. It was a fantastic meal.

We love Kona......the prime rib and filet are to die for :goodvibes. We were in Orlando over Easter and ate at Kona and they had the prime rib and filet....but with all the rumors circulating about the filets being taken out of restaurants, I'm not sure if it's still available :confused3.

IMO, their food was absolutely yummy!!:goodvibes The kids menu was pretty good too.:lovestruc This trip we are going to dine for breakfast. We have read so many good reviews about Kona.

Kona is my FAVORITE place hands down in all of Disney. I'm actually scared for the word to start spreading, as it is a small restaurant, and I fear I won't be able to get ressies anymore. The beef teryaki is the best! It comes with pineapple pieces on top, creamy yukon potatoes on the side, and brocolli on the side. YUUUUUUUUUUUUM.. This is our first dinner res for when we are there in November.

We just ate dinner there for the first time 2 weeks ago and it was great! It is now one of my favorites. It was definitely the best meal of our trip! I had the mahi mahi and it was awesome, my sister had the beef teryaki, she said it was very good. As were the sticky wings. Our sons just got basic kids meals. The service was very good as well. We will definitely be eating there on future trips.

I think Kona is WAY under-rated. We ate there twice our past trip, and the food was great. These were some of the best meals that we had. My wife and I both had the Prime Rib the first night, and she had the Filet while I had the Beef Teriyaki the second night. For appetizers, I had the shrimp roll both times I loved it so much! (I forget what appetizers my wife got.) For desserts, the Banana-Chocolate Creme Brulee is excellent, and my wife enjoyed her Kona Kone and Chocolate Fondue. I wholeheartedly recommend eating at Kona if you can!

Wow! You guys are great, very nice comments and all very nice to hear.
I'm sold, really looking forward to it for sure!!

THANKS, EVERYBODY!!!
:yay:

We ate there Oct 07 and really enjoyed it. The wings are to die for as is the bread and butter. DH loved his teriyaki steak (I did too!) but my dish was blech BUT it was my own fault. I did not know they changed the shrimp lo mein dish from a savory one to a sweet and sour one (dumb me didnt read the menu). The shrimp were great but the dish was loaded with peppers and pineapple and way way way too sweet! DH finished it off after he put some salt and pepper on it...I swear that boy will eat anything.

We are really looking forward to another meal there this Oct

I know back in December they still offered Kona Brewing Company products at Kona though the PR Concierge Club no longer did. Most restaurants and clubs are loosing this dimension of the theming spirit which Disney continues to erode as they elect to compromise to use one vendor at lower cost.

We have ressies for Kona on Sept 6. We have never dined here before. I am looking forward to it now, in the beginning I was dissappointed about filets being gone but I am going to try either mahi mahi or beef terraki.

:yay: :yay: :dance3: 23 days till DISNEY!!!:dance3:

I want to book Kona for our upcoming trip, but my husband demands that we go back to Ohana for one meal. If I book both, is that Poly overkill? I know that they are different in many ways, but am I going to regret booking both in the same trip. (Both meals would be dinner, btw?)

Oh, sorry to hijack the thread, OP!!!!

I don't think so. It would all depend on how long your trip is.

6 nights. Maybe one towards the beginning and one towards the end. I don't know what I'm worried about. I think my husband could eat at Ohana every night we're there, so I think we'll be fine.

We tried Kona for dinner for the first time on our last trip in May and loved it. I think it was our favorite meal. I got the teryaki steak and my DH got the coconut chicken, both followed by the kilueah torte - heavenly!:thumbsup2

I think you would be fine. Maybe save Ohana until the end, so you can eat all you want and it won't show in your bathing suit!

Excellent idea. I ate so much last time that I thought my husband was going to have to roll me to the car. (The Lapu Lapu may have had some effect on that, as well.)
