How is bus service from AKL to parks?

We have always had a car - either driving down with our own car, or a rental car. We just returned, and drove, as per usual, and DD6 appears to be motion/car sick like me now. We have been back 6 days, and I'm still not settled from the car ride.

That being said, we are contemplating flying again - I am worried about sick people on board, and security with the kids (last time, they dropped our $1,000 camera, and intimidated my baby girl as if she were hiding something, so it was a bit scary for her), but once I get over these issues, we need to fly home to the mouse.

So, I am wondering, what is bus service like from AKV to the parks? I know it's very quick to AK, but what about Epcot, Mk & DHS? We were thinking we could take the bus to Epcot, and then monorail it to MK, as well as ferry boat to DHS from Epcot/BCV/BWV.

What do those of you who stay at AKV do for transportation?

Thanks, Tiger :)

We have stayed at both Jambo House and Kidani and I have to say the bus service to the parks have been some of the best I've ever experienced at WDW. I think we have been averaging waits of less than 10 minutes and then non-stop service to the parks from there. AKV has its own dedicated bus routes to/from the parks so you aren't forced to stop multiple times in most cases.

Now getting to other resorts and/or DTD is a little bit of a hassle, since there are multiple stops involved. But that's the case with most of the resorts.

Thanks - that's great to hear! Tiger :)

We stayed a Jambo House in June and the wait times were excellent, no more than 8 minutes, usually only a couple of minutes. The travel time was okay too, I think it took us 20 - 25 minutes. So when you consider parking and transfer to trams to get to the park, bus times look pretty good. Other parks were shorter than that. None as quick as going to Animal Kingdom though.

As often happens, everyone's experience can be wildly different. WE had the worst service ever from AKV for our late June trip. On more than one occasion, we waited for 40 plus minutes both at the resort and at parks. First time we have ever experienced this in dozens of visits to WDW.

I can't answer the bus question, but regarding the motion sickness, there is a product called SeaBands that's sold in the U.S. (not sure if you can get it in Canada) that's an elastic wristband that works under the principle of acupressure. We have them for my dad...they really work in controlling nausea/vomiting. They're sold in pharmacies/WalMart and are usually next to the motion sickness medications. Hope that helps!:thumbsup2

Thanks, BTDT. I have actual Relief Bands (purchased in US), which is an accupressure band that looks like a watch (expensive) - it works a bit as I can go from 1 -5 intensity. Also, been on meds, and they don't really work either... I get very nauseated with headaches and dizzy, and nothing else (I don't want to be too graphic), so that's why it's harder on my body. My DD is just experiencing this for the 1st time, so we have to see how it pans out.

We have the sea bands, so I might try those on her, as I know they are safe for children.

Thanks, Tiger :)

We just returned from Kidani Village in July and we have previously stayed at Jambo House. We never had a problem with the buses. the longest wait we had at the resort or the parks was 15 min. and that happened twice. To get to the Magic Kingdom does take about 20 min and to get to DTD it took about 25 min.

We just returned for a short trip 6-15 thru 6-19 at AKL. We never had a bus issue. There is one bus stop and the buses seem to run regularly. We loved it!

We stayed in Jambo (5 nights CL) and Kidani (3 nights) in July. The bus service was good. The longest trip was to MK, but you would have that with a car too. IMHO there is no reason to rent a car if you are staying at either of the AKVs.

They have very nice covered sitting area with enough seating that the wait didn't seem long. Also, you don't share the bus with other resorts like you have to do at the Epcot resorts, so there was always room on the bus for us.
