Well my original plans of going in Feb. have fallen through. We can not pull our oldest dd out of school that time of year. She's in all advanced classes and we have been strongly advised not to.

Our next option to go is July 3rd-11th. But I'm afraid that with the 4th of July being on a friday that is is going to be crazy crowded.

This will be our very frist trip and I want to have the best time possibly with my family. Advice?

Well, we were there last year arriving on the 5th of July... But I had been reading all these posts about July 4th... I told my husband about this and he couldn't belive that the park could be that full (enough to close the gates and not allow more people in)

MK usually ends up shutting there gates by 10 or 11 am due to the park being so full... I guess they do a big fireworks display and special stuff..

When we had got there on the 5th I asked the man at the gate so what time did you shut the gates yesterday he said 11:30am...

But From the 5th on, it wasn't terrible! Crowded, yes because it is the summer and alot of people go.. BUT not terrible at all. I would go at that time again....:)

My thinking is with the 4th being a holiday I'm so worried that the whole weekend might be unbelieveably packed. :confused3

How long did you have to wait for rides? Were you able to see all the shows you wanted? And what was the temp when you were there?

Well, the temp it warm... Wait. No it's HOT!!! and very humid.... The crowds were there, Soarin's lines (Epcot) were about 75 min to 2 hour long waits and fast pass had shut down around 11 becuase it had already giving out all it's fast passes for the day...

We actually walked right on Pirates, had a 30 min wait for haunted mansion and probably a 45 min wait for Splash Mountain.. (At anytime that's not that bad)

I did not mind the heat at all (I am one of those freak shows, I like it warm because I am always cold!)

I will say this... The crowds were way worse the week of Columbus Day!

We did go on everything we wanted to, we used fast passes alot... :)

Our exact dates of our trip were July 5th thru July 8th....:wizard:

July 4 week is the most crowded week of the summer (no matter which day of the week the 4th falls on), and is one of the two or three most crowded weeks of the year at WDW.

As for the weather, plug your dates in here to get some history:

http://www.wunderground.com/tripplanner/index.asp

But to sum up the weather, it will be extremely hot and extremely humid, with a good chance of thunderstorms every afternoon that will last anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple of hours.

We went last year over July 4 and I didn't think it was bad. We arrived on 6/30-7/5, then went to US for another five days. You will need to do some serious planning before you go! I absolutely LOVED the fireworks display 7/3 at MK (I was in tears! I have never seen anything like it!)and we were at MGM on 7/4 and the fireworks there were not great, but the crowds were very light. IMHO if you by tour guide Mikes plans and FOLLOW THEM you will have a great time!! By the way the longest we waited in line for ANYTHING was about 15min. and we took breaks every afternoon. We had myself, DH, DD10 and DS 9 at the time. Good Luck with your trip!

We are also there last year, arrived July 1 and left on the 7th. It was our first trip and still survived the heat, the crowds, and the rain showers.

We went to the parks that didn't have the EMH and got there at opening. Our lunches were normally the sit down meal, about 1:00 and then headed back to the hotel afterwards. So we missed most of the heat. Went back to the park with the EMH in the evening. MK was open until 4:00am and it was great. We only made it until 3:00am though. FP's for SM were gone by 8:00 that evening. I think that was the longest line we waited in the whole week, and it was over an hour. We used the FP's every chance we got.

We were bad though and didn't see any of the firework shows on the 4th. Headed over to Epcot for the 9:00 fireworks, but the crowds were bad and the thought of waiting in line for the bus afterward caused us to head home. We were able to see some from the hotel, POR. Someone told us they were from DTD.

I believe there was a thunderstorm every afternoon, but we didnt' let it stop us.

I could handle going back again at that time. It sounds like the week after Christmas is worse.

I hope you are having a wonderful trip. You'll be at Disney World and I'll be wishing we were.:)

Lets just say good luck. I spent 4th of July this past year in Magic Kingdom and it was awful. The crowds were horrible and yes they did close the gate.

I have been to MK on the 4th one time and it was crazy. Friday or not the 4th is going to be CROWDED at MK. We went up on top of the city hall or whatever at the entrance of MK looking toward the castle and you could not see pavement just people. Just go knowing it is going to be more crowded than usual and you probably won't be disappointed by the crowds. I would recommend EPCOT on the 4th because it is a larger park and save the MK for another day on your trip. :)

We are going June 27th-July 3rd. Should we expect big crowds everywhere? Do they do special fireworks other days besides the 4th?

Our last two trips were during the 4th of July week. We came a few days prior and both times, right on through the 3rd was terrific, as far as crowds go. If you can, arrive as early on the 3rd as possible and try to get to the park you most want to see that day. Is it crowded? Is it real hot? YES! But, it is also one of my favorite times to go, because it is the summer and nothing beats the 4th of July fireworks shows!!! They are beyond amazing. The worst, as far as crowds go, are during parades and fireworks. You have to find your spots early and stay put until the events, then stay close as you try to leave. Better yet, go into the shops to avoid some of the crowds who are all trying to leave.

Another tip I highly recommend is to sign up for Tour Guide Mike, which you may have noticed a lot on these boards. Just go to www.tourguidemike.com and you will get all the best tips for your timeframe specially tailored for what you are looking for in your Disney trip. I believe it cost me no more than $20 and he will show you all the inside tricks for avoiding crowds, spending less time in lines, everything! You can even email him personally. He does this for a living and really knows his stuff.

Were there some rides we waited for near an hour? Yes, but not many. I just reminded myself that if I was in any amusement park in the summer that I would be waiting at least that long, but we did really well with getting Fastpass tickets every time we could, and that helped. Also, take advantage of the early morning hours and late night hours. You can see a lot during those time frames. Another great way to see places like MK during this time, with the least amount of headache, is to schedule a breakfast at Crystal Palace or the Castle. You can schedule it for earlier than the park opens. When you arrive, you can get some incredible pictures on a Main Street that is typically empty or nearly empty of people. Then, when you finish, head straight to the area you want to see first. We normally take the earliest breakfast available, so we are at our rides locations before they have officially opened the park. You can't ride yet, but at least we're in the best spot to get rolling.

We are going June 27th-July 3rd. Should we expect big crowds everywhere? Do they do special fireworks other days besides the 4th?

Yes, expect big crowds everywhere. It's the most crowded time of the summer. Last year they did special fireworks in all the parks on both the 3rd and the 4th to help accomodate the increased attendance during this time.

I know it's not July 4th but we were there July 8th -19th a few years ago. It was very HOT and I don't remember crowds being over whelming, I know it is after the 4th but I thought there were going to be more crowds then there were since it was dead middle of summer.
I am really considering going next year for my Birthday which is June 30th so I'll be there for the 4th. I think we will skip the park that day and watch the fireworks from a distance. Maybe we will swim all day and Dinner at Calif. Grill to watch the fireworks.

We are going to be there at this time too next year. We will be there for the first time July 2-6th. So thanks for posting. I can't wait to hear about fireworks and such. So the firework show is on the 3rd. Or am I mistaken.

hmm, I have ressies for the little one to get a princess make over at downtown disney at 9:30 am then we have reservations for CRT at 7:30 pm. is this just impossibe to do on the 4th?

They do special fireworks shows, at least at the MK and Epcot, both on the 3rd and the 4th of July. This way, you can go see both.

You made those reservations for the 4th of July? I know that if you plan to go to MK on that day, you have to get there very early, because they close the parks when they reach max capacity, which in the past seems to usually occur between 10 and 11 a.m. When we've gone on the 4th, we make a character breakfast ressie at the castle and stay all day. If you can, I would try and get the reservations changed, at least for the princess makeover in DT, or you may not make into the park later. The later it gets on the 4th, the more crowded it seems to get. It would be horrible to expect to get in on that day and not make it. I hope this helps. :goodvibes

okay another silly questions. If you already have tickets and they are max. Do they still let you in?

I would like to know this as well. I have Crystal Palace reservations on July 4 for dinner. So do we need to just plan on getting to MK early in the morning and staying all day just so we will be able to make our dinner ressie? If this is the case, I may change the reservation.

We went once during the 4th of July week and it was soooooo HOT and Humid we were really miserable and worn out. I really don't remember the parks being packed wall to wall but it was very busy and I doubt we will ever go during this time again, mostly because of the weather.
But if you are prepared with water, cooling neck wraps and leave the parks in the afternoon during the hottest part of the day you will probably do better. Take advantage of early entry at each park and make the most of it then return late afternoon/early evening. It will still be hot but the blasting sun will not be beating down on you.
Maybe it would be better to skip friday/saturday and arive on sunday. I would think once that weekend is over the crowds wont' be too bad.

You do have one important thing we did not when we went during this time=- the DIS! you will be prepared and ready to have a great time!
