We will be in Florida starting next Tuesday until the beginning of September.

I have read and been warned about Florida's summer heat and have been advised over and over about the need to keep hydrated.

I just checked the weather network ... wow ... feels like 40c to 41c !!!
Is that safe ... wont this level of temperature cause heat stroke !?!?

Any last minute tips/suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

HOT HOT HOT!!!!!!!!:rolleyes1
Very humid...plan on water parks..early visits to the parks, back to the Resort at the peak of the day for a swim and cool down time..then head back for the cooler evenings. At least the sun isn't beating down on you.I have always done WDW in late August..last year I decided no more. Can be opressive..but it is still do-able!
I would never suggest that an elderly person or someone with health issues shlepp around Disney in the summer months.:confused3

If your resort has a fridge with a freezer, then freeze water bottles every night and take them with you in a back pack. A misting fan will on occasion be worth its weight in gold so you might want to buy one.

It's very hot and very humid...forget makeup and don't bother doing your hair! Seriously, we have been 3 times in the summer and are going again next week and although very hot and humid, we find it manageable. If you are not at the pool or waterpark you are in and out of a/c at the parks. We try to get going early, swim at the hottest part of the day and go back to the parks in the early evening. Drink plenty of water...we freeze water bottles and get the free ice water in the parks. Also, try to carry as little as possible since big backpacks can be so hot and heavy. (I have a very small sling bag for a camera, snacks etc) We have tried those fans but we don't like to carry anything so I pack a couple of baggies with wash cloths and it works great to soak them in cold water and wipe our necks, faces etc throughout the day. After the crappy summer we have had in Ontario I am actually looking forward to the Florida heat! Have a nice trip!

We don't often go back to our resort in the middle of the day because DH doesn't swim. However, be sure to get out of the heat by eating in an air conditioned restaurant or by seeing some of the longer attractions i.e. Hall of Presidents, Ellen's Universe of Energy, American Adventure etc. DH usually sneaks a nap in during these attractions. ;)
And as everyone else has said - lots of water to drink. DSis is down there now and having a fabulous time. Hope you enjoy your trip. :)

Stay hydrated. Get an early start. Take a break in the afternoon go for a swim.
Wear a hat.

We'll be there on Thursday the 20th.

Get up early. Get to the parks before they open. Do all your favs first. Grab lunch in the a/c then head back to your room for a swim and a nap! Go back to the parks all refreshed around 5p. Grab dinner and enjoy the rest of the evening!

This is the way we do it in the heat. The mornings are not that bad. You have done all your favs by the time it gets to hot.

You also avoid the crowds of hot crabby people!

Dont forget to grab fastpasses all day, you can use them in the evening!!

We got back four weeks ago and it wasn't bad at all. Hot, yes, humid, yes, but very manageable.

We warned our kids about the heat and humidity. Even they said it wasn't bad.

Florida is air conditioned.

Swim, water, a/c, enjoy!

We have been going every summer since 2005. With a few summer trips before that as well. Not one of us has had heat stroke or any other heat related issues. Just use common sense.

It's not that bad if you are mentally prepared for it. As everyone has said drink a couple bottles of water every day and take breaks. Lots of sunscreen, properly applied and be sure to re-apply often. Throw in a few ice creams and you're off to the races.

We go with the exact plan as some of the PP's. We get up early to be at the park for RD and then leave by lunch time. Relax at the resort in the room or pool and then head back at dinner time for the rest of the night. It cools off a fair bit when the sun goes down. Also, we do not go to the parks every day. Some times we only go a couple of days in total or we alternate days in the parks with the waterparks.

We've done this 2 times in August /September and we're about to go again in 2 weeks. Everyone's suggestions are great:thumbsup2 Our first trip I was really worried like you, but we just got early starts like others have said.
I also think a midday break is essential, even if you don't swim, etc. It's just great to maybe take a refreshing shower and I like to change my clothes before heading out to our evening park and ADR's. It can get a little sweaty:scared1:

Thank you everybody !
Looking forward to great fun and memories for us and the children.

PS .... I just double checked the schedule of fireworks/shows for the different parks .... was so happy to see that they have added a second fanstasmic show on the date that we will be in DHS.

Someone from an earlier thread recommended going to the later show (10:30) because it is less crowded than the 9:00 show.
