How Hot is HOT

Okay I haven't read through the other responses but I can tell you when we were there it was rough (and yes we're doing it again! Our anniversary is still the same time each year! lol). It is the age old problem of the humidity in Florida. It is very very sticky and heavy. The upside is that usually every afternoon there is a shower to break it for a while. Just pace yourself and enjoy....in and out of shops, hydrate, etc.
Yep, I was banking on those afternoon showers last August...they never happened. The only time it rained, for my entire trip to Florida for the entire two weeks, was in Castaway Cay, on our cruise. The skies opened and we were deluged. I was praying for rain while at WDW.....but, it never rained. Just that incessant heat/humidity. But, I'm headed back again Sept 4....obviously I didn't learn my lesson.

It was in the 90's (the humidity was that high as well) when i went early September 2006 for NoJ. I am not saying a word to my DH...he will want to cancel!:scared1:
Afternoon pool time is starting to sound good!!!::yes::

I choose this month not for free dining, but for the heat and humidty:cool1:

My DH wants to move to FL, he only been in winter months.

I want to see if he can handle it

then we will talk about moving

Thanks for all the replies...the Dis rocks!
So in the heat my face gets bright bright bright (we are talking bright!) red. So anyone in WDW during the week of the September 14th - look for the girl with the face that my DH lovingly calls MAGENTA! Hee Hee.....at the Jimmy Buffett concert in Philly I walked by some parrotheads and they laughingly asked one of the guys to "ask her if she's hot!!" - unfortunately they weren't talking about my body! Like I said...I get red!

I live in Texas and it has been 95 degrees and above for the past 2-3 WEEKS straight. In fact yesterday it was 101 plus humidity. It has been miserable. I put on purfume and it just evaporates in the heat...I am wasting perfectly good perfume for nothing...::scared1:

Anyone ever read "Dante's Inferno" in college? I always tell my husband that it's fifth circle of hell hot outide and he just laughs because heat does not bother him at all. It really irritates me. I am wanting to stick my head in the freezer and he is cool as a cucumber. My 2 year does not talk much but it does say "mama, hot" I taught him well. :rotfl2:

We are planning to go next year the first week of May. Does anyone know how hot it is in May?

From all these posts sure sounds like it will be hot when we go in a couple of weeks also! :rotfl:

Heat is not enough to keep me away! Actually, the thought of *possibly* touring the parks in 30 degrees (it happened to some friends of mine one time in January) bothers me much more than in the heat and humidity! I can't imagine being at WDW and wearing a winter coat and hat and bundling up my kids at the same time! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Early September (9/4-11) last year was record-breaking on several days and simply brutal on the others. I don't think the heat index dipped below 105 the whole time. I'm from central Texas, so I know what hot is. It's the humidity that totally zaps you. I was either out of the park or eating a TS lunch in the A/C no later than 12:00-1:00, sometimes earlier (I think I was out of AK by 10:30). Although I had intended to go back in the evenings, it never happened. That was okay since it was a solo trip and I didn't have to do anything I didn't want to :goodvibes

If I remember correctly from what I've read on other threads, it stayed pretty miserable until mid-October last year.

A PP had asked about early May. This year (5/4-13) it was great. It got pretty darned warm (very close to hot) a couple of afternoons, but generally it was comfortable.

it's subjective.....
DH would say it's hot & uncomfortable (as sweat literally pours down his face). i say it's not that bad at all b/c i don't feel the heat like he does (& consider 100+ degrees a gazillion times better than bitterly cold, painful nights in december/january).

:)

We have done many trips in late August to DW. It has been very hot and very humid, but very manageable. You have to remember to drink lots of water, and make sure your children do, and take breaks in the AC. DW has many attractions that are indoors in AC, take advantage of that fact. We are going again this year in early August. We will have my mothe in law with us, so we plan on taking breaks back at the hotel in the afternoon, which we never ordinarily do. You will be fine....living in south jersey or even on long island, we are used to hot and humid in the summer.

I am going next week and almost dreading it, but this was the only time my BFF and I could go for the next 12-18 months, so to heck with the heat!

We're planning on the early am rope-drops, early a/c lunches, mid afternoon swims/naps, and buckets of sunscreen.

We have loose cotton or linen pants/skirts, short-sleeved loose tops, cotton wide-brimmed hats, and we'll be carrying zip-locked washcloths, deodorant, baby powder and misting fans, plus crystal lite/gatorade so we'll up our water intake. We plan on changing clothes twice a day and doing some laundry.

Coming from dry-heat California I just am not used to humidity:worried:

The heat is weird with me. I have a lot more trouble in mid/late May than I had during Labor Day week! :confused3 I think in my case, the angle of the sun is what gets to me. In May and June and July, it's more overhead, and the sun beating down on my head just gets to me quick. I can get overheated in a very short time and just have to get out of the park and back to the hotel NOW. :(

But in September during Labor Day week, I was hot and sticky, but not overwhelmed by the sun. I was pleasantly surprised! The angle of the sun made a HUGE difference with how I handled the heat. I did just fine in the parks - always felt sticky, but that was expected! :)

I am from the east coast, and as for the argument many people use "it's just as hot and humid where I live as it is in Florida" - sadly that never helps me because I would never tour a theme park for 6 days here in NJ in 90 plus degree heat, either! Even though we live in humidity and heat here, we usually are doing everyday things in that heat, not trying to tour largely outdoor and asphalt theme parks for many days in a row. I know for me, a trip to Disney in June or July or into August is out of the question, I know I would not handle it well at all. :(

But September is just fine by me! :)

Yes, we were there from Oct 10-17 and there were quite a few days the newscasters were predicting "record highs". It was sweaty hot and we were wiped out by 11 am. That is a major plus to staying onsite, though... because we skipped the hottest part of the day, rested, swam, and went back to the parks after the sun went down. We're from Hotlanta so we know hot 'n' humid but DH and I decided we can deal with either super-hot temps OR super-crowded at WDW, not both.

If you look at my sig, you'll see we opted to plan for a January trip next. We'll stick to winter trips from now on!

Ok.....we booked free dining beginning September 14th at CBR. Since we have been to the World quite a few times we don't need to go commando....just want to do our fave rides. We are not early risers so planning on doing the Extra Magic Hours. Soooo how hot are we talking in mid September....smokin' - broiling - brutal??? Is it so bad I'll hate it?
The humidity is what gets to me before the heat.

This is exactly like my youngest son. All it has to do is get hot and he turns into a tomato (he has very fair skin and a red twinge to his blonde hair) . I want to give him a sign that says I AM NOT SUNBURNED so please stop looking at my mother as if she forgot to put sunscreen on me! You would not believe how many people comment when we are in that kind of weather.

I'm an AP holder & live only 1 1/2hrs away from WDW & let me tell you last September at the parks was miserable, especially if there was a rain storm. The heat and humidity made any walking around pretty miserable. We actually left DHS and didn't even go back there again until December when the temps were much cooler (I still wore shorts). Our best time at the parks were in January when the weather was in the 40's-50's range. We had a really bad cold snap while we were there (in the 30's) & had to buy warm clothes because I'd only taken shorts & capris..........LOL!!! They had the heater things out at DTD & it seemed so strange to be sitting by the water drinking a margarita & freezing......:rotfl2: We are, however, venturing back again in September just before AP's expire, but we're only doing exactly which parks we want - taking an afternoon break at AKL & then doing the evening hours at the parks. :duck:
