How hard would it be to change resorts if I am unhappy?

I was looking at the photos of the renovated rooms at AsMovies and we are staying there in September in a preferred room. The main reason we chose this resort is because my kids are young and they LOVE the theming and I was super excited for the new renovated rooms. I have stayed in all 3 categories of Disney Resorts and we dont spend much time in the room anyway, so on our shorter trips or trips where we wont be in the room or resort much, I usually stay value. I just saw new photos of the renovated rooms and I am nervous - it looks like there are a lot of sharp corners on all the new furniture (although they do look great!). If it is something that doesnt work out for us, can we switch? I would happily pay any upgrade fee, but has anyone ever done this before? It worries me that there might be no availability as well, and I am wondering if I might be better off just switching now to AKL (my kids also love animals so this would be our next choice - we stayed here a couple of years ago and loved it). My kids would be so disappointed as they really wanted Movies, so that's where I am torn. Also, it might just be my anxiety from photos - the rooms may not be as bad as they appear. Can anyone that has switched to another resort weigh in here or weigh in if you have recently stayed in a renovated room at ASMovies and have concerns or not about those corners? Thanks!

Packing to unpack, time to handle all the details of cost changes etc.

I think you’d be best hearing from people that have perhaps stayed there recently to comment on ur safety concerns for the kiddos.
Try not to Overthink it, you did say ur not really in the Room and I can’t imagine disney .. especially in family or group type room choices would be Unsafe, kwim?
And.. look into rehabs and pool closures etc to know what u can expect at each resort
Have a wonderful, safe visit!

I assume that switching would really just depend on availability, and I wouldn't bank on Disney covering any price difference unless there's something actually "wrong" with the room.
Oh of course. As I wrote in the thread, I would cover any price difference. If it just comes down to availability, I'll stick with what I have and take the risk I think.

You would obviously need to pay any price difference if you switched (and likely lose any discount that was applied to your room at Movies if there was when when you booked it), but if there wasn't availability somewhere else, you might be stuck having to upgrade all the way to a Club Level or a Suite at Grand Floridian or whatever...you might not get much of any choice when you switch at the last minute, and you certainly will have a harder time getting anything that might be discounted. Is it worth risking that? If not, change now.

I wouldn't worry that much about the corners, personally.

Depending upon when you go, there may or may not be ANYTHING else available.....

FWIW, I think your concerns over sharp corners are a bit over the top unless you have children for whom and bruising could be a serious health hazard.

On one trip some years ago, I was booked at All Star Music, which had been oversold. The *only* room available they could move us to was a deluxe! Oh darn! We managed to suffer through the (no charge) upgrade!

Also consider the Jambo house pool at AKL will be closed for refurbishment in September. You might make another second choice

Last minute moves can be possible based upon availability. I have done to in the past. These days, however, with the hotels booking near capacity, I would be concerned about counting upon that. Have you considered a split stay with AKL/other resort? That way, if you are unhappy at ASMo, you will only be looking at moving earlier and, if not possible, you will not be spending the entire trip at ASMo. Plus the kids (and you) get to experience both resorts.

I know our neighbors were not a big fan of the Murphy bed at Pop, banged their shins a few times on the corner because it sticks out farther then the other bed. I have also read posts about the same thing, so I would try and keep the murphy bed up as much as possible. In September you should have a very good chance to change rooms if you wanted.

There will almost certainly be SOME rooms at another resort, but problem with changing when you are there is that most room discounts require advance booking, and I would never want to pay the rack rate at Disney. Why not compromise on a moderate like POR? WL is also a good deluxe around the same or lower pricing that AKL if you decide to upgrade and want to avoid the renovations at AKL.
