How good is the wifi in the parks

It seems that a lot of folks are using apps in the parks for line times and reservations openings and the like. I am not wanting to pay huge roaming bills and am hoping that I can rely on the wifi. Will it be good enough or is it really spotty?

I thinks it's important when commenting on wifi in the parks that you indicate if this was before or after the latest upgrade to the wireless infrastructure at WDW (approx. 3/27/2015).

It worked well overall - crowds in the 3-5 range. (April 2015) I only had trouble at AK. Strong signal, but it kept kicking me off as soon as I connected.

It works fine for what it was intended to do. Getting online to grab/edit your MDE information, check the weather, send a quick tweet should be fine. Trying to live stream your trip or stream NetFlix won't work so well.

Never had a problem streaming music on pandora, Facebook. Instagram , or the www. Even vine loaded fast, I'm ogoing t up to date with all he apps. But everything works perfectly unless you're in a dead zone. Aka middle of a ride.

I've seen comments that if the MDE App is slow try to use it via your phone's web browser -- same functionality, possibly quicker.

I had some problems 3/17-3/21/2015. Mornings were fine at MK, Epcot, and DHS. However, afternoons at MK and AK were bad. AK was so bad that I had to switch to data, which was better. This is on an iPhone with ATT. I was using the app to try to change an FP+ attraction, while watching Flights of Wonder and maybe even in the EE gift shop. I actually lost trying to get a Safari FP. I don't know if it was the poor wifi or Disney's MDX servers were slammed. It sounds like they did an upgrade right after we left. This trip was worse than our trip in late July. I don't think I ever had to switch to data then.

EDIT: Don't rely upon a connection to know when your FP+ and ADR are. Either put them in your calendar, a screen shot, a note, or on paper.

WiFi was spotty for me last week when in the parks. At certain points it would just stop working and i'd have to disable and re-enable to get it working again. A few times I gave up and just used my cell data plan.

I've had good luck with wifi, was able to attend a skype class meeting while in epcot eating school bread!

It's free. Anything free at Disney can't be bad!

Last August (2014) I found the parks to be pretty good, with only a few times of slow or lost connections. That was after the initial AT&T conversion. Prior to that it had been awful.

Coverage in the hotels in August was spotty and usually overloaded in early evening.

You should not be incurring roaming charges in Disney Parks if you are with a US carrier - all the US carriers should have decent coverage there. But you would certainly be eating up your plan data.

I did not know they upgraded it. I will try next time. I have always turned my wifi off in the parks because it was so bad.

We were able to make FP+ changes last year using our daughter's iPod from the MK bus stop, waiting for the bus back to Coronado. So I'd say "really good" :)

The Wifi was pretty bad when we were there last (1/27/2015-2/3/2015). At this time it was very slow, and kept connecting/disconnecting, draining my battery pretty quickly. I am curious to see what the upgrade has done to address this.

We are traveling from Canada, and because we are going to be on site only we will be relying heavily on the wifi. It is not worth it for 8 days to change our plan.

It used to be pretty good, then the last six months or so prior to the latest upgrade, I haven't been able to connect in the parks at all (although I could connect at the resorts just fine - so it wasn't a device problem). I am looking forward to trying it after this last upgrade to see if I can connect again. I use an iPod Touch, so it's wifi or nothing for me.
