How good are AP resort discounts?

I am deciding between a 7 day pass and an annual pass. Will I make up the difference in resort discounts? Most of my reservation would be on DVC points but I would paying cash for a 2 bedroom for one of two weekend nights in late May.

Any info would be appreciated.

If the AP Holder discount is offered then, the discount would be approximately 35 - 40% at the Home-Away-From-Home resorts.

You don't have to have the pass in hand to make the reservation. So you could see if you can get a discount then buy the pass. You need the pass when you check-in. Most of the time they don't ask to see it, but have it just in case.
