How fast is the internet in the villas?

We are staying at the BWV in a few weeks and I was wondering what kind of download speeds you get in the room?

Thanks!

I've found the speed of internet connections at all the WDW resorts to be fine. Can't tell you the actual speed, but it appears to be nearly as fast as my cable at home.

We have used the internet in a few resorts - not a problem !

:cool1:

It was just like at home and we have a high speed connection.

I found it to be speedy enough for web browsing and email. However, downloading large files will likely be slower. I think each room is limited to a 1.5mbps speed limit. Which is comparable to your typical "cheap" DSL line.

If you're used to the premium DSL or Cable internet speeds, then it will be slower. It can't even begin to think about touching some of the fiber connections (FIOS or UVERSE).

Basically, it's fast and responsive enough for basic web browsing, email and other "light" internet usages. Downloading music, movies, Netflix streaming, Hulu, bit torrent and other such heavy internet usages will probably suffer from the speed.

We didn't download any large files, but we did upload photos several times during our recent stay at BLT and did not notice any difference than we have with our cable internet at home. All of WDW has wired "high speed internet access". Since BWV is attached to a conference resort (BWI) I would think you get decent internet. I noticed on the Disney website that it says for a fee you can get WIFI. Of course maybe they are referring to WIFI in the lobby versus your room. If you really need to know, I'd call the hotel direct and ask them.

For us, it's always a LOT slower at Disney than at home.

1Mb/s plus or minus sounds about right. Better than many hotels, not as good as better-than-average home service. I'm able to get work done comfortably from a WDW connection, but streaming video can be choppy at high quality levels.

On balance, I've always been reasonably happy with it. In contrast, at many hotels I visit, I end up giving up on the local connection and using my Sprint EVDO card instead. My local Panera's connection stinks, too!

Thank you everyone for your input. I know it isnt the fastest, I assumed it was on par with DSL.

but streaming video can be choppy at high quality levels.

That is exactly what I was wondering. I have an aircard from Verizon, but I would hit the cap pretty fast if I was using it for video.

Thanks again!

It's been about the same as I have at home...but I have the mid-range cable service at home 3MB.

If you can stream it over the 3G VZW network, you can probably do it over WDW's internal network. In fact, I'm guessing WDW's speeds are a titch faster than EVDO.

I've hosted several virtual conferences from both THV and BWV without any difficulty. My usage requires sufficient bandwidth for simultaneous activities: shared applications/slides, presence awareness, chat, streaming audio and optional streaming video. Each conference runs ~4 hours. I tend to turn off the video -- but must keep the audio as I'm recording the event through my connection.

I don't have any hard numbers but we occasionally watch our local news (via our slingbox) and that works fine.
