How far is Clearwater ??

we want to do a beach day and we're looking for a good beach. I've heard great things about Clearwater. I know Daytona and Coco Beach are closer, but have not heard the best things about them and being that early May will be prime Spring Break time.. I'm thinking they'll just be party beaches and very littered, I could be wrong though.

Any thoughts? Is it worth driving to Clearwater for the day?? TIA for any suggestions.

About 1 1/2 hours from Disney

Clearwater is nicer with young kids since there are no (or very little) waves in the Gulf of Mexico. My memory of Clearwater Beach is a much calmer, quieter beach.

Just FYI, college students are LONG done w/ Spring Break by May. Most colleges end the spring semester on about May 15th. May is a very slow season on Florida beaches.

Can anyone give directions to Clearwater Beach? We have 1 day before we check into FW, and I thought too we'd do a beach day. The receptionist at Kissimmee Guest Services when we went in Feb, suggested Clearwater over Daytona Beach, saying the water is warmer and calmer, and the beach is more family oriented! So directions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Directions to Clearwater Beach:

I-4 West to Tampa, then take I-275 South Towards Tampa International/ST. Pete, Take the Tampa International Airport Exit then follow the signs to Clearwater Beach/Courtney Campbell Causeway (Major Construction in this Area), Follow this road, it becomes Gulf to Bay Blvd once over the bridge and into Clearwater, all the way to the beach. Depending on traffic it will take about 1 and 45 minutes.
