How far in advance should you make your reservations?

We're off tomorrow for 9 nights and apart from 1 reservation at California Grill for hubby's birthday we haven't arranged any meals. I know that some restaurants you have to book months in advance, but we're not too bothered about most of them. So, my question is, for your average Disney restaurant, can you just phone a few days in advance? We do like to keep our options open, but there are some restaurants I would really like to try.

Personally I think you asking too late. I am holding adr's for august already. If your intersted in somewhere specific I would call now. If your not going to be dissappointed you can wing it and hope for a walk in experience, I am to compulsive, I like to have a plan. If we change our minds that day, I just call and cancel and let the adr open up for someone else. But I always feel better going prepared. But then again, we are going in August, much more busy than march.

Not sure if you are staying on property, but if you are, when you get there go to guest services and check on the restaurants you want to try. If you are flexible on your times, you may be able to get some choices. This is peak time at WDW and so you may not get all your choices, but you may be able try some....

I never make ressies before I go as I never know where I want to eat and when. The only restaurant that I have been shut out of is Teppanyaki, no availability there when I went last time. It is very popular...good service, good food and a little floorshow with the chef cooking....

I think there are enough choices and many hours in the day so if you are flexible you may be able to try some restaurants.. Also, people make reservations and do not always show up so you can walk up to the restaurants in Epcot, MK, MGM, and AK and check availability as well.

My Mom is there right now and waited until the last minute to make reservations for the two of them(I must be adopted! ) But she was able to get into some of the off beaten out of park good ones like Flying Fish and Blue Zoo but could not get too many in park....like le cellier or Chefs de Paris. So my advice is keep an open mind about where you will dine and I think you may be ok.(personally I would call though to have some in place so you save yourself the hassle when you are there)

Alot of times you can get into TS restaurants for lunch easier than for dinner; or sometimes really late in the evening. I plan to call for my ADRs at 180 days out, so personally I think you are asking a little late as well. Be flexible and you won't starve!! Good Luck and Have Fun! I wish it was me!

Well, I'm taking your advice and just called to make a reservation at Ohana, one of the restaurants I really want to go to. I asked for this coming Monday at 8pm and I was given 8.20pm which I think is excellent! I'll have a look through my guide if there are any other restaurants, but we're not very picky really, as long as it isn't too expensive!
