How far in advance should I make ADRs?

We usually just wing it as far as meals but with the dining plan keeping restaurants so crowded there are a few 'musts' that I'd like to make reservations for. We'll be there for the week leading up to 4th of July. When should I call to make dinner reservations?

:confused3

Keep trying if something you want isn't available. It took four phone calls, but yesterday I got a lunch ADR for June that I've been trying to get for over a month!

Seriously?! I had no idea it was that difficult to get reservations! :sad2:

I have never before had a problem getting a lunch ADR at Chefs de France, but Remy the mouse puts in an appearance from 12:30 through 6 or so every day except Sunday. I do not know if this was the reason, but I began trying in early March, (as soon as I found out about Remy) and each time I was told no lunch availablilty. I was trying for 3 different days! Once I was even told, "Well, there's an opening for Le Cellier for lunch on Thursday, should I book it for you?" Yes!

However when I called yesterday, the Chefs de France lunch on the Tuesday, which was the day I really wanted because we're checking out of the BCV that day and we just wanted to hang around the pool until 11:30 and then do lunch, and it was available. Maybe it was just a glitch in the system.

Having to decide where we will eat each day so far in advance is giving me anxiety!

This just isn't how we roll! Since vacationing with DVC we are no longer 'commando-plan-every-minute' vacationers. I like that we've been able to take a more laid back approach in trips past. Generally we wake up in the morning and decide where we want to go that day or perhaps we'll decide the night before.

Being ten weeks out and thinking about where we need to be each day in order to get meal reservations just isn't my thing.

The only problem with free dining and the DDP is that you have to make reservations so far in advance in order to ensure that you are going to be able to eat where you want to. We've done it several times and to be honest it can be a bit of a pain as you cant be spontaneous with your diner choices and to some extent your park choices on a given day!

You'll definitely want to make those reservations as soon as you can though.

It's what I've been working on all morning but it's becoming stressful! I don't like that. Aren't vacations supposed to be our escape from the stresses of every day life? We don't even use the dining plan but are forced to do this because of it!! grrr!

Sorry for the slight rant, I completely understand why people would use the dining plan and I'm in no way slamming those people.

I feel a little bit better now. But just a little bit ... think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts. :cloud9:
