How far in advance do you order magic bands?

When staying off site, how far in advance of your trip do you order your magic bands? I think I heard somewhere that the battery inside of them are only good for a certain amount of time?? (Not sure how long that is)

It's 2-4 years, so not a big factor. Order whenever you feel like it, or wait until you arrive. That way you can see them in person, and it only takes a minute to connect them to your MDE account at checkout.

The way I understand it is each MagicBand has two RFID chips in it, a passive chip (good for near field communication like when you put your magic band against the Mickey Head Icon to enter the park or a Fastpass+ queue) and an active chip (one with a signal that can be picked up at a distance). The passive RFID chip is all you need to get in the park and use Fastpass+, but if you want to take advantage of some of the MyMagic+ features (like having special photos of you on a ride magically appear in your account for example) then battery life would be important to you.
