I know ADRs are 180 days days before your first day. However how far in advance can you book a vacation package? :confused3

You can book a package once the new rates are released. Rates for the following year usually come out in the summer.

Ah, okay, so that would be why the the website won't show me availability for next March? I know the last time we went we booked 1 year in advance (Nov 2009) so things have changed a bit.

See the post above you, you book when the rates are released for packages. Since they are normally released in August, you were able to book in November.

If you want to book before rates are released, you can book a room only at the highest rack rate for that season and give one night's deposit. You can book that up to 499 days in advance. Then you can convert to the package when rates are released.

What would be the benefit of doing that? Just securing a specific type of room?

Some people honestly need to know their next trip is already booked. Forgive us.

In addition, for people who want to book every July and they do not want to wait to book, they snag a ressie.

Also, for the land/sea package, you can book cruises 18 months in advance, but resorts are a bit different. It is easier for planning purposes, like next year, I am going with 3 friends from work and we needed a basic idea of cost for each of us.

Sorry if that came across snarky...not my intention at all :goodvibes The only benefit I could come up with was securing a specific type of room. I am totally an over planner and would love it if you could book a package a year ahead. I would be ALL over that!

Securing a specific resort/room type is one benefit as well as having more time to pay on it if you want more time to make payments. But, if you want a package, it doesn't really make much sense (IMO) to book just the room before rates come out because switching from a room only reservation to a package requires the room only to be cancelled/refunded and the package booked. This would require you to pay a new deposit on the package and wait for the refund from the room only. Room only and packages are different reservation systems, so money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other and tickets cannot just be added to a room only reservation to make it a package.

Thank you for the explanation :)

I have been very lucky, since I go the week after Thanksgiving, so I can book the minute I come home.

It is nice to make payments as well; a few dollars here and there and it is paid for in no time!
