How far in advance can someone rent points, if available?

DH and I are looking into renting points for our next WDW trip {not until 2007}. But were wondering how far in advance can someone rent points? Can you rent them at the beginning of the year {2007} and have the ressies made then by the owner or do you have to wait until it gets closer to the time you want to go to WDW? Is it best to wait for an owner to advertise they have points for rent? Or can someone post they want to rent points, how many and for what dates? I know we still have awhile, but I figured I would get a jump on things and learn as much as I can from DVC owners.

DH and I saw the booths through out the parks for DVC and DH wants to rent some points first and see if it something he might be interested in before buying. Basically how do DVC owners use points through the year?

If you have decided which DVC resort you'd like to stay at, you can start looking for someone who owns at that resort to book you a ressie at 11 months before you leave. DVC members can book their home resorts 11 months in advance, their non-home resorts at 7 months in advance.

You can put the request either way -- you can look for someone advertising something that matches your dates or you can post and ask for someone to make a reservation. Everything is done as a personal transaction so be sure you understand what happens if your plans change over an 11 month period. Usually bookings are "final" and the best a person can do is try to re-book the dates for you (if possible.)
