Splash Mountain is my all time favorite attraction at Disney.

But when I took my kids to Disneyland for the first time in April of 2007, it wsa closed. We are coming again next week and again Splash Mountain will be closed. Admittedly I booked this trip without checking for closings, but I'd like to experience it with my kids someday ... the oldest starts high school next fall.

While some attractions do break down, with Splash this has been known for many months. It's for maintenance and planned. It won't open until the end of May. Sorry.

For infrequent visitors there are some advantages to going during high season:

Disney does not usually announce closures until a month or two ahead of time. Fairly reliable rumors are posted in MousePlanet's weekly newsletter.

From what I can tell, Splash is usually always down from later Jan-April. But as for how far in advance Disney posts refurb schedules.... I think between 1-3 early at best.

Splash was rumored (fairly reliably) back in October I believe. I know we changed out trip rather early because of that.

Actually, a more complete description is that many rides require lengthy refurbs of 3-5 months and these are almost always done starting in January as decribed in the link I gave earlier. Splash is of those rides. If you look at historical information Splash does not go down every year at all. It did this year though of course.
