How far do you tow your camper/ drive your RV.

When our kids (4) were young we drove straight through, 22 hours in the RV. My breaking point now is 10 hours on the road.

We drove our class A motorhome from Michigan to the Fort last September. First day we drove 17hours making it just across the Florida border, we left at 4am. Then the next day we only had 3hpurs to the magic! Kids slept, ate when they needed to and we worked on school(we homeschool). They had no idea until we got to the welcome to Walt Disney sign. Originally we told them we were road tripping to Georgia. This wasn't their first time to Disney but first time camping there. We love it and are going back this coming November to stay at the Fort again.

We live near Utica, NY and drove down in August. I won't lie - it was a LOOOOOONG drive and, in hindsight, I wish we had done it in 3 days instead of 2 or at least split the 2 days differently. We pushed really hard the first day and made it all the way into SC. The thought was that we'd have less to drive the next day, which was true, but we really didn't plan well for traffic, construction and other delays. We didn't arrive at our planned stop for the night until hours after we had planned. Everyone was tired and cranky and we had to set up camp in the dark. Next time, if we do it over 2 days, I'd shave a few hours off the first day and add them to the 2nd - or convince the hubby to do it in 3 days - a battle I'll probably never win because he wants to drive straight through and just sleep a few hours in the car if he needs do.

I think you can be a little more flexible if you have an RV and can just pull into a Walmart and sleep. We don't have that option with our popup so we have to plan ahead where we're going to stop and sleep and make reservations.

An important factor in travel is the speed you drive. When I read these posts and see how quickly they reach their destination I wonder what speed they tow???

I would hope everyone is driving safely. But I know that in my old Monaco and pulling the new 5er, I have no issues running at or around 65 on the whole ride down I95. Actually with the 5er, my truck is happier if I stay at 65-68 vs. 60 where it wants to drop down a gear.

Most trips we run about 70. For the race team we set the cruise on 72. Obviously this is contingent on conditions, traffic and weather.

Western states (Kansas and beyond) have speed limits of 75 or 80 (85- Utah). While our rigs can tow that fast and we are comfortable at 75-80, the fuel mileage is terrible and the additional fuel stops negate any time saved. For us, 72 is just fine.

Agree with Teamubr on the speed of 70-72. 35 foot Jayco is not too much for the f-250, but mpg seemed best in and around this speed. Getting there faster is not gonna save me any money, but it pays in safety.

We seem to travel a little further than many other families. Our children are still young (8, 7 and 5) and we have a 35' trailer. We pull about 6k miles a year. Many of our trips are 450-600 miles, but we travel 850 miles (each way) to MI each year, and last year did 1,150 in 2 days going from SE MA to WI. Our number one camping wish is to get to FW. We are having to plan ahead, but we have a trip planned for 2016 to make that happen - and we can't wait!!

I think it depends, heavily, on the family. I am comfortable doing the long driving, and the kids seem to hold up ok. As long as you don't rush and are willing to adjust as needed, it can work!

This will be our 2nd trip with our class c motorhome. We have no tow vehicle and will be traveling almost 1,300 miles.

Our plan is to try to travel nonstop. We will make some rest area and truck stop breaks, but hopefully will arrive by 6pm on day 2. This year, we are stopping at the KOA in Kissimmee for 3 nights so we can go to Universal first. Then spending a full week at the fort.

We are traveling with an 18 and 15 year old, along with my wife and me.

Can't Wait

We have traveled to the fort in our MH'S at least 8 times from 30 miles south of Boston , and now avoid I95 until we reach SC. We stop in Broadway VA. the first night and Yassamee SC the second night and get to the Fort just about 2pm. We enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

2133 miles from Chandler (PHX) az

*first leg leave Wednesday noon and drive 600 miles then sleep by 11:00 pm
*second leg drive up at 4 am then drive until midnight 1100 miles sleep
*Friday sleep till 6 am and drive 400 mile to the fort and have time to grocery *shop and check in maybe 3 or 4:00 pm Friday. NO PARKS until Monday at the earliest.

we are 6 in a class a motorhome and we only stop for gas/tire inspection. This will be our third trip in the RV. We have a hotspot for the kids to keep them occupied.

For us, the trip to WDW is only FL to GA, and easily a day's travel. But we do tow to PA each summer for about a week. We have a 3 year so we have to stop more than my husband would like (he'd drive straight through!), but still do it with just a quick overnight stop if that. Sometimes we even just stop for my husband to take nap at a rest station or truck stop and continue on.

We're only just North of Atlanta, so going to Disney takes a day (we HAVE to stop once to refuel, but hubby prefers to stop twice for gas just to be on the safe side.)

We have taken longer trips and as others have said, we take our time, pick pleasant places to overnight and make the trip part of the vacation.

And camping at Disney feels different than any other camping experience, by far! There's absolutely nothing else like it!

We bought a travel trailer before our last military move and towed it about 2500 miles cross country from Florida to Southern California:good vibes We had an amazing trip and I'm convinced that this is the best way to do a PCS!

Farthest we pull our 5'er is to WDW from the Lehigh Valley, PA.

It's just over 1000 miles door to door for us, and we have 2 kids (ages 1 and 4). We usually do the way down straight through (driving over night) and come back in 2 days, stopping at a campground in NC-ish.

We have an extra tank in the bed of DH's truck, so we can go over 500 miles on 1 fill, and on 95 he usually averages about 72 mph.

Near Macon,Tifton or possibly Valdosta, GA?

Gonna be at least a year before we attempt Fort Wilderness but always a good time to plan out a trip!

We usually leave South Jersey around 8am and head south on 95 around Baltimore and DC during the middle of the day. We find this the best time besides overnight. We switch drives and eventually stop at the GA welcome station. We get up for day 2 and leave between 7 and 8am. This leaves us a nice 6 hour drive and arrive at the Fort between 1 and 2pm. This gives us the afternoon of day 2 to setup and get ready to see Mickey. We generally drive between 55 and 60 depending upon road conditions.

1990 Ford f150>2007 Sunline 25 footer. SW PA MapQuest says 970 miles. Early August travel dates. (Wedding Anniversary). Anniversary 2013 towed to Outer Banks. Once out of Mountains smooth sailing! Looking forward to this "Adventure"
