How far are THV from SSR

I am thinking about trying to book a THV for Jan '10. We will have 3 dd by that time. They will be 6.5, 4, and 13 months. Our dds love the main pool at SSR, and we want to eventually try out the Grandstand pool.
How far of a walk is it to the main area of SSR from the THV. I wonder if there will be bus service between the two.
We just don't want to have to walk 15m to get to the pool with 3 wet kids. Especially in Jan when the air temp won't be as warm.

They are just in the woods between SSR and OKW. THere will be bus service and the information sounds like there will also be a pool with the THV.

I think it will be close to a 10 min walk, maybe 15 if the kids are slow:goodvibes

I would go out the rear of the Carriage House, hang a right by the boat dock, cross that golf cart bridge, first right, and then it's about 5 min walk to the THV.

Or you can cross the street and use the Spring bus stop.

Based on the Google map someone posted, it looks that some Treehouses will be closer to the Carriage house than some Carousel buildings.

I have walked both routes.

The whining about Carousel is getting ready to be surplanted. Some of the Treehouses are MUCH MUCH farther. I guess we will need "Treehouse booking categories" too!:lmao:

Initially I thought that you would want a THV "to get away from it all" I was just suprised to see that you might actually get closer than some regular rooms, but as you mentioned, usually you'd be much farther away.!

Here's a Google Earth image, note that when it was taken, part of the current SSR was still under construction.

Looks like about half of the treehouses are more distant than The Carousel. Some are closer to the Carriage House than rooms in Congress Park.

this was taken from back stairway of building we were in last week - we had room 9832 so were on other side of building. You can see the foundations for three of the tree houses which are right along the golf course walkway -
I wonder if they will allow walking along there to get to the carriage house etc. Right now all of those paths are marked that they are only for golf carts.

There are also the ones that are along the banks of the canal between DTD and POR which will be a further walk to anywhere so hope the boat dock is going to be centrally located.

It seems that the boat could be a good option for getting between THV and the main pool especially if you were close to the canal.

Thanks for the pictures and the input. Now we just have to decide between low points at OKW and the coolness of THV.

How far are the THV's spaced from each other. Are they in groups of 2 or 3 or just spread around the "loop" we see in the above photos?

Thanks for posting the old map. I could never remember how the Disney Institute was set up, compared to SSR now. DH and I were just reminiscing about racing around in the golf carts when we stayed at the Treehouse villas many years ago. We used the cart to go to the pool, out to dinner, shopping. It was great. I wonder if they will offer the golf carts??

Here is a map of the old layout to help you out.

:scared: That sure looks like without the addition of a dedicated path / street over to SSR that it would be quite a hike from some of the THV's over to the pool and restaurant features at SSR - especially without a car. After seeing that we might just say "pass" to THV's. Let's hope they add another way to get back & forth. We would not want to walk out to Community Drive and then walk down that to get over there.

The original Treehouses were very quiet. When we first stayed at then 'DVC' now OKW we shared a bus route with the Treehouses. (Yes we have been members since the early days of DVC.:goodvibes ) I never remember seeing anyone at the pool there. And very few people got on or off the bus. Even one of our drivers remarked about how quiet it was there. There were guests staying there, you could tell by the cars parked under the treehouses and we could see people walking around and of course occasionally on the buses, but it was very quiet.
The OKW boat would stop at the LBV golf course clubhouse/restaurant if you asked and you had to hit a switch to light a signal light for pick up. (The dock was in the same location as the SSR boat dock is now.)
I don't think that they will add another boat dock at THV unless they plan to have the PO boat make that stop. It seems to me that a dock location would make more sense along the canal to PO rather than closer to the one for SSR.
