How early for FoF (and another parade question!)

We will be watching in Adventure/Frontierland. How early to secure a good spot? Especially one with shade (and where are they?). Also, whether for this parade or MSEP... we're a party of 6. Is it possible that a couple of us adults can claim a spot while the other adults take the kids on a ride while waiting, as long as they're back say 15 minutes beforehand? I really don't know if our kids can stand/sit in one spot for 45-60 minutes, definitely not DD with ASD.

1. 30-45 minutes, depending on crowd-levels. (Earlier is always better than later.)
2. Yes.

If when you go they have a 2nd MSEP and if your family can stay that night Frontierland will not be full. In fact it will be easy to get right on the rope barrier and watch. Now if you are going Christmas/New Years week I cannot answer. I was there on 28 May and walking from BTMR we could not cross over and got right on the rope and watched the parade in Frontierland. We were not in a big hurry so it was not a big deal. That was the 2nd MSEP.

At least 45 minutes. Yes, someone can take the kids to do other things, but be prepared to zealously guard your spot, depending upon the crowd levels.

We found a spot on the planter directly in front of the river boat dock in liberty square. We sat on the planters, the kids sat on the ground at our feet(wasn't really shady) plus we didn't have to sit on the ground. We were a group of 3 adults and 3 kids. I left the other 2 adults and I took the kids for a snack and restroom break while they waited. They put our backpack in-between them and saved my spot....worked like a champ. I would say we found the spot about an hour before the parade started(this was the week before Thanksgiving week so not OMG crazy busy-crowd calendar was a 5)
