How early do you get to the airport????

Our flight leaves at 9:30am ..... I'm thinking about leaving around 6:45am

1/2 hr drive to get to the airport (sky harbor phoenix) then allowing 2 1/2 hours to park SUV at airport, check in, go through security.....

Is this tooooo much time???

Left Sky Harbor on Saturday. Took about 45 min to get thru security. They now suggest you take your shoes off. Also, you can not wear a jacket thru security.

For domestic flights I usually get to the airport about one hour before departure.

How comfortable are you with the layout of the airport? If it is your first time flying out of that location you may want to leave yourself a little more room.

I have never been to the airport 2.5 hours early but if you are the type of person who feels more relaxed being early then go for it!

I always try and arrive at the airport two hours before my flight. We have had our seat assignments given to someone else in the past and then we are scrounging for seats together. By arriving early, I usually can avoid this and also can relax and not worry. I am a worrier by nature and this works great for me.

If checking luggage, I always arrive at least 2 hours prior. If not checking luggage, 90 min. You never know when there will be a long line at check-in or security. Or if you will have a problem on the way to the airport (traffic jam). I'd rather have extra time and relax than being rushed.

I agree about allowing extra time. Especially with the new security procedures. I would rather be sitting at the gate with time to spare instead of worrying if I am going to miss my flight.

I agree with safetymom. It's far better to be early, than stressing about being late. You're starting your vacation...you just don't need the added stress!

Plus, you never know about traffic (accidents) or whatever which can make the trip to the airport longer.
