How does the kids eat free package work?

Just wondering how the "kids eat free" works. I have a 9 and 11 yo. They both are small eaters and eat off the kids menus. With an online package at an onsite resort I could book for 2 9 yo's and purchase the 11 yo theme park ticket seperately as I would have done anyway. How do they know who is on the kids eat free plan. Is it a card? Do you get meals at the parks?(walk up) Or is it all sitdown dining. THanks.
