How does the dining plan work with 2 separate reservations?

We are planning a trip this fall for 6 nights - 3 nights renting DVC points and 3 nights with a pin. I couldn't get all of the dates I wanted with the pin so I needed to rent points. So Disney will treat these as two different reservations, right? I'm running into problems because I'm thinking of purchasing the dining plan (the pin discount can be used with a package).

How will the 2 reservations affect the dining plan? Will I need to use the 3 days of meals by the time I check out of the DVC room, then get more when I check in the pin room a few hours later? I'm having trouble scheduling some meals because I wanted to use a different # of TS and CS meals on different dates and my plan won't work if a certain amount of meals need to be used in 3 days.

Has anyone ever went to Disney on rented points and a MYW package? Is there a way to combine the reservations? Or at least be able to use the meals as I want? After obsessively researching this vacation for months I can't find the answer to this. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure how the DVC works but when we went this past December the free dining started half way thru our trip and we asked disney if we could get free dining for that last part of our vacation. Disney told us that we could only if we checked out and then checked back in. Essentially, they were treating our vacation as 2 seperate stays. Because we wanted the QSDP throughout our trip, we asked if we could transfer any remaining CS or snack credits. This could not be done and we would have had to start fresh. Ultimately, it wasnt worth the hassle to us so we did not do this but I hope this info helps you!

You will have 2 totally separate reservations with 2 dining plans. The MYW package will require the purchase of park tickets (1 day minimum) to be able to add the dining plan. The DVC stay does not require the purchase of tickets.

Credits for each dining plan start when you check in, and are valid until midnight of the check-out day for that reservation. So they only day you would have access to credits from both dining plans at the same time is the day you check out of the first resort and into the second resort.

And, just to add--since we have done split stays before with our DVC and used the dining plans--you can't combine credits from both sections even on the transition day.

For example, if you have 1 TS credit left on the first stay and and want to go to a Signature meal that uses 2 TS credits per person, you can't use 1 TS from each to make up the 2 TS credits. All the credits have to come from the same card to pay for one meal.

Now, if you have 2 TS meals left on the old card, you certainly can pay for one person with the old card and the other person with the new card.

Just be sure to bring a Sharpie or something to mark the cards. We did this and it helped ensure that we used the right card on that transition day.

Good luck!

I reworked everything, but it's the transition day I'm still a bit nervous about.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

I didn't know that part Sandi - but it makes sense. Thanks for clarifying my answer which might have steered the OP wrong!
