how does the bus system "work?"

I know this is a pretty vague question but I am clueless as to how you choose what bus to take to get to where you want to go. Are they marked with specific destinations and go directly there or do they follow a route with stops along the way? We are leaning towards either Port Orleans Riverside or maybe Coronado Springs. Not sure if it matters where we stay but I didn't think it would hurt to mention it.

The same question applys to how you get back to your room once you are finished for the day.

Thanks for helping a novice get her bearings on how to tackle the "world".

Each resort will have a group of bus stops for different destinations. One stop will be for the MK, another for EP, another for AK and so on. in addition there will be a bus for Downtown Disney and the water parks. In some cases a bus will goto 2 destinations, such as at Pop, the DD bus stops at Typhoon Lagoon as they are really close. The marquee on the bus will say where it is going.

Likewise at each park there will be a bus stop for each hotel, just go to the stop for yours and it will get you there.

At each of the resorts you are thinking about, there are several bus stops sprinkled throughout the resort. Every bus will stop at each stop. Everyone stands at the same stop.

When you see a bus coming near, you look for the front display, because that's where it will very clearly state the name of the destination in large capital letters; there are smaller displays on each side of the bus, as well.

So in other words, let's say you want to go to Magic Kingdom. Go to the bus stop that is most convenient to your room or the food court (whichever you are leaving from). Each time a bus nears, watch for the read-out on the front of the bus. Don't get on a bus unless it says "MAGIC KINGDOM".

Once you get on the bus, it might make other stops within your own resort (depending on which stop you used), but once it leaves your resort it goes directly for the destination without making any other stops.

When you leave a park, you walk out the gate and go towards the bus area. Each bus slot will be clearly marked -- you go to the bus slot with the name of your resort on a sign.

I will add a couple of things to the excellent posts already here.

If a bus does not display a park, ask the driver where they are going.

With the new computer system, the marquees sometime don't update properly. POR North depot on a DTD bus is one that always messes up. If this situation has happened, the readout on the bus will say the resort name.

Please take note of your bus stop at your resort.

I know that this sounds dumb, but many times guests do not know what stop to get off at. At night, after a long day at the park, most bus stops look the same. If you are staying at POR, look at the name of the bus stop. They are North, South, East and West. At CSR the stops are one, two, three and four.

Hey, have you been following me around POR?? I can't tell you how many times I have done just that thing...I thought I was at the right stop, but no, I had waited too long and now had to trudge back through the resort. Love the resort landscaping but, at night, at the end of a long day in the parks, I just don't seem to appreciate the lush surroundings very much!
